My M-I-L had a friend who spoke Spanish by talking slowly, loudly and putting “-io” at the end of every word.

A customer at our store complained loudly to me about the ‘immigrant’ before her who couldn’t bother to learn English. What she didn’t know was that the ‘immigrant’ was a Civil War fanatic visiting from Madrid visiting battlefields. How did I know? I speak Spanish…

Yea all those translators spoil the dialog don’t they? What’s worse is the English speaking people that can’t open their mouths and enunciate their words. I didn’t know Burl knew other languages I wonder how many he does know? Or is he faking it to make himself look good?

Does Burl watch “Swamp People” with their subtitles?

I don’t think Burl is even bothering to make a pretense of understanding the other languages. He may just find it more soothing (just meaningless sounds).

Actually, in newscasts or such (when someone is translating) if I understand the speaker’s language it is better to listen to the original speaker. Translation may be simplified, sanitized or even have the “spin” of the person translating.

It would be so much better to use subtitles. Burl wouldn’t have to listen or read.
