Actually, he’s right; at least as far back as the 1990s there’s been some degree of controversy concerning companies deliberately trying to maintain a maximum number of staffers so as to ensure that they fall below the minimum employee counts required to trigger federal oversight.
It’s just another reason to have a public option. Take healthcare expenses off the employers back, LIKE THEY DO IN EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY ON THE PLANET.
Maybe then American corporations can hire back here at home and still compete in the global marketplace.
No argument with any of the posters above….except for the fact that there are many, many other reasons for a poor job market. Let’s not make the mistake of believing that the job market would be ideal if not for Obamacare. That would be simplistic and incorrect.
Employers have been juggling numbers of jobs and hours available to gain economic advantage since laws governing employers were passed. This is nothing remotely new, and it will continue whether Obamacare stays in place or not.
The Dow is at record highs, which in theory means folks are investing in American corporations. Why aren’t THEY investing more in American citizens, including providing health care equivalent to what most other industrialized nations provide?
BTW, the same ‘toon with regard to jobs for graduates was the theme when I graduated 43 years ago! I DID have a job, though at that time it wasn’t “permanent” with full benefits or guaranteed employment. That took another 5 years to obtain because new hires were restricted to keep spending down in civilian agencies, while spending in Viet Nam continued.
The claim that ACA or viable wages is the reason for a failure to build jobs is as accurate as saying the sun revolves around the Earth. Keeping “profits” high to pay out to those investors in the market, and CEO benefits up, has a lot more to do with sending jobs overseas, and our “home” labor market suppressed.
Thanks actually goes to the philosophical mentality created by laissez-faire capitalism within the minds of big business corporatist and/or their stock holder’s or other controlling interest. That attitude is “I Don’t give-a-dam about anything but us and our profits". These so called Americans (Corporate owners etc.) have sent their businesses to other countries for the tax havens, slave market labor and little or no environmental and/or product safety controls over the last several administrations…America, Her people and their interest, be damned.
