Did this one for a buddy’s wife who was convinced that my cartoon’s point was to poke fun at Southerners. Believe me, that’s not my intention…I hope to poke fun at everyone I can.

Now every time I butter my toast, I’m going to wonder if I’m doing it right – THANKS! (maybe I should look for a U-Tube video)

Omg! If I had a nickle for every time I’ve said that in my lifetime I could pay for a world cruise. Wouldn’t necessarily take one, but I’d have enough money for one.

I grew up in Michigan and have lived in Alabama for over 20 years now and love it (much nicer weather, for one) – as long as I don’t bring up the Civil War (a.k.a. The War of Northern Aggression) or treat people who were raised in the south as if they were stupid (most of the ones I know are quite intelligent), I get along fine with everyone.

Well at least I now know what UncaJim was talking about. Pretty sneaky going back and getting in the last word on last weeks comment pages.

Congrats again on your daughters accomplishments.

That must be where Rich learned how to butter toast the Dang Yankee way.

Now I believe it’s in the book: Pissing in the Snow and Other Ozark Folktales by Vance Randolph (a true classic piece of Southern literature) that gives you a clue about how buttering things is done Southern style.

Northerners use only one of those little portion cups of butter for 2 slices of toast; whereas, in the South, we use 2 portion cups of butter on 1 slice of toast! Then, bring on the jam! Oh, and it’s got to be good old Sunbeam white bread.

Reminds me of a now-gone strip “That’s Jake” by Jake Vest outta the Orlando Paper, where a snooty NooYawk-type lady apparently had asked “what’s THIS??” He’d answered; “Them’s grits, lady. They come with breakfast Down Here….You’re Down South, now, so .Eat up!” or something akin to that.I got my first taste of grits in Winchester, VA on the way to a re-enlist at Biloxi, MS backin Sept of 58. Ain’t nuthin’ better’n a buncha grits, salt, butter’n pepper for a decent brekfist down south !!!
