So now we are saying there is no scandal? The IRS was merely doing due diligence to prevent abuse of its rules, even though the IRS itself admitted to holding up right-wing causes in comparison to the fast-tracking of left-wing causes? This comic seems to imply that the organizations are crying foul when the IRS was doing the right thing, which is not at all what was reported.

I want to say this again: Who believes that the Tea Party cares about “social” issues or “welfare”? Their entire MO is about permanently destroying social welfare.

Why fault the IRS for doing what was extremely obvious?

If the followers of this incredibly shallow and unpatriotic movement want to sacrifice the way people who pushed for labor rights, civil rights, womens rights, gay rights, they will have to reckon that it comes with a cost before they can be taken seriously.

To take a page from the Republicans: Only those with something to hide need fear scrutiny.

yep, nailed it is right! it is the responsibility of the irs to makesure 501-c’s are what they say they are. i, for one, am fed up with these groups (and that includes some religious groups) skating by, paying no taxes while they are obviously raking in the cash to push a political agenda.

as for the comment about the bush appointee… seems to me that obama was showing his willingness to include republicans and their views which seems to backfire each time he tries to do so.

as a now disillusioned and former repub, i am ashamed that the tea-party and repubs are so anti-america now.

Please please please, can we simplify the tax code and do away with exemptions entirely? Then the IRS won’t have to spend the time trying to figure out whether an obviously political org can call itself a “service organization”.

By the way, have any other middle income taxpayers noticed that exemptions for work expenses, etc. don’t do diddly in reducing your tax liability? All the exemption “perks” are going to the big players.

When the Federal Government comes to tap your phones and monitor your speech, will you then want the Tea Party to help defend your Constitutional Rights?

    I though so.

Too bad you do not see the irony of hundreds of groups forming to push back against the over-reaching and over-sized government being held down by an over-reaching and over-sized bureaucracy.

The cartoon is right on both sides. The IRS played politics and 501c groups, Tea Party or other, have political agendas. The fact that money collected can be “disappeared” may be an extra incentive for some of these groups. The ultimate mattress under which to hide your money.Citizens United has created a great imbalance in our electoral system. It also gives incentives to the wealthy to hold on to their money instead of spending it so they can use it in the next election.A responsible legislature would see the damage this can do and would pass legislation to tighten the rules or get ride of the 501 groups entirely. Both parties see the benefits of having ’friends" who can donate privately in order to get friendly legislators into office.Everyone is paying politics, but a great nation is being sidelined and left to stagnate. This is not a good thing.Respectfully,C.

They use the funds to buy tinfoil for inside their tricornered hats? Reagan had the IRS go after "liberaL groups, and neither side should, but when an individual, or a group, like well, “sovereigns”, not just “TEA party” jokers openly proclaim they intend to evade taxes, seek “protection” to contribute in violations of the laws, audits aren’t uncalled for.

The liberals spin their lies again. The IRS abuses their power to hurt the conservatives, while giving liberals (who are usually using deception to begin with) a free pass. Then, the liberals accuse the conservatives, who have been scrutinized to death, of hiding things. The liberals will go to any length to hide their own wickedness and slander their opponents.

“And when they were denied, they claimed the IRS was discriminating against Right Wing political organizations?”They weren’t denied.

In a roundabout way, that McConnell failed in his vow to make Obama a one-term president. :)One group that was turned down for tax-exempt status: “IRS denied Emerge America, a liberal advocacy group that trains Democratic women in Wisconsin and several other states to run for public office, 501©4 non-profit status for being primarily a political organization that promotes candidates for public office, which the IRS has the legal authority to do.”
