Are we really going to depend on scientific research done from 2000 to 200 years ago for what is a rather new phenomenon. Did they have centuries of industrialization, mass deforestation and such extensive use of hydrocarbons.
Aso tropical weather up in the north – all those Arctic explorers and scientist and David Attenborough have been lying to me all these years. Thank you for opening my eyes.
Cod fishery over the Grand Banks was basically destroyed some time ago, restrictions are helping, but the breeding populations were basically destroyed, so it isn’t coming back very quickly. All over the world, human pressure on fisheries, game populations, and aquifers is causing huge problems, only increased by the use of petrochemicals that temporarily increase harvest, along with genetic engineering, that lead to long-term irreplaceable loss. Such is happening in the “high plains aquifer” , the Ogallala, and others, like beneath the southwest deserts that will take thousands of years to restore.
But the “conservative” mantra remains: What has posterity done for me?
The “Santa Claus” of endless productivity of the planets resources has been seriously wounded, not quite dead, but greed has already killed all the elves, so production IS on the way out.
Michael wme: You are going to believe Herodotus over Admundson (first to sail the Northwest passage in 1907) or Larson (captain of the RCMP schooner St. Roch, which was the first to make it both ways in 1944)?
“Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten”One only has to study the history of Easter Island.
Coburn and Inhofe of Oklahoma are two of the most prolific “deniers” who say climate change isn’t happening and the predictions over the last 15 years of more severe tornadoes, storms, and “weather events”, are pure bunk. Hmmmm, wonder if either of them is “bunking” in Moore, Oklahoma tonightt? (Last four years, three most severe tornadoes in history in Oklahoma, nah, no increase in severity happening.)
Exxon-Mobil says that anthropogenic global warming is real, and advocate a carbon tax to spur innovation and conservation. That’s right, Exxon-Mobil. Of course, they’re just a bunch of tree-hugging leftists, aren’t they? Fortunately, it doesn’t matter what we think is going on. Reality is a great corrector of errors. Efficiency, conservation, and diversification of energy sources are all, in the end, going to happen, because in the end they will all be necessary. Economic reality will do that eventually. Unfortunately, our collective unwillingness to try get ourselves ahead of the curve is going to create a lot of misery and death before it’s all over. Also unfortunately, the distance between cause and effect is so great, that the causes of the this pain will always be able to pretend they have nothing to do with it. As they (or should I saw “we”?) have been doing for quite a while.
I just saw something about global engineering such as make created “volcanos” that will fill the outer layer with ash, so that it blocks out sunlight. The length the rich will go to to keep their “golden goose” going with fossil fuels. We messed it up, so we will mess WITH it again to correct it, but all that money we could use to get weaned from using fossil fuel, and create clean energy.
“So .04% or 400 Co2 parts per million scares you? And, it has been higher much higher.”That’s right! Co2 levels have risen before, killing off species beyond count, thus paving the way for new species to thrive. Let’s just hope we aren’t among the species that fails.http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/life-on-earth-under-threat-from-co2-levels-say-scientists-8612900.html

I take exception to the outrageous non-science of this comic strip! We all know that Santa Claus breathes AIR!
