PhD in CS/EE is more similar to my BsC in CS with MicroComputer concentration, tons of math, physics, and electrical engineering in addition to the regular CS classes.

Basically its three, three, three degrees in one.

You should try a PhD in History… that’s why I work in the IT field as a database administrator. Professors hang around at the university until they die at age 90, literally, taking up slots that us youngsters at age 53 could fill

You’re just saying that to stir up the hornets’ nest, right? Most people here understand, some of us from actual experience, that a PhD IS a real doctor, and often involves much more work than an MD does.

The person who posted above forgot to add another statement I made yesterday, so I will say it again. I live in Kansas. I hear the right winger point of view everyday. Therefore, I feel no need to read or comment on right wing comic strips. Also, the mainstream media is not dominated by the left wing. Instead, the mainstream media constantly bows to the right wing and insists on a false equivalency in regard to many issues. The liberal mainstream media is a myth. I am happy to read GT’s comic strip and enjoy his point of view. If you don’t appreciate him, I can’t for the life of me understand why you bother to read his strip, let alone make comments on it. Life is short. Do things you enjoy. Get a life.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

You must be confused. The Tea Party is supporting the moochers with theirtaxes. That’s why their number one theme is fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets. The moochers are the anti tea party gang because they pose a threatto the free ride

The point of being a troll is upsetting other people through nuisance posts. Theoretically, one who has a conservative point of view on a liberal comment section doesn’t have to be a troll. However, if the righties don’t want to have their comments questioned, again, why don’t they go elsewhere? No chance of being considered a troll on the right wing strips for the likes of the trolls we see here.

Yes, I chose to respond negatively to GT being considered biased. It is his strip, after all. It is a free country. You may disagree with him. That will not stop him. GT has the right to express his views, whether you agree or not. As to Ragarms or Dr. Toon being a troll, I have seen no evidence of this. In reality, we are all biased. No one doesn’t have a point of view unless they are completely uninformed.

Well, a psychiatrist is definitely an MD. I was under the impression that a psychiatrist was another specialist who is an MD. There is nothing to say that a person can’t have both degrees however. The MDs have to specialize in something, whether it is family practice, psychiatry, orthopaedics, GI, or whatever.

It seems to me we have a number of thoughtful centrists here – it’s true we all have our biases, but there are a dozen or more people that I can think of who do post thoughtfully, without trolling, on both sides of most of the issues.

It is sometimes easy to miss sarcasm, and there are some here who don’t recognize humour, either, but I think we give too much time to the trolls. I’m guilty too – sometimes I want to make a broader point, and let myself get sucked in, but I am trying hard to reform.

Discussion is fun as well as useful. We can do that. I suspect we’ve let our skin get a little thinner than we’d like.

We really do have some great posters here.

There are a great many people in this country who would be delighted to try to manage in your state of poverty.

All we have is SS, and mine is a pittance, further I am a cancer patient without health insurance.

This is not so much a bid for sympathy as an example of the reality that too many of us are living with.

Oh – and we aren’t considered to be ‘poor’ by any government agency Federal nor State. We are living on our income, if not within it. We get NO assistance of any kind whatever.

I hope you are counting your blessings.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Despicable, hate and Nazis ? That’s a real nice constructive rebuttal. I am not sure what people consider a “good paying job” is before they decide to go to work. I believe in helping, like teaching someone to fish rather than give them a fish and creating a dependent mooch.

A Doctoral degree is a Doctoral degree. If it is in the field of Medicine, it is an MD. If it is in the field of Law, it is a JD (Juris Doctor). If it is in the field of Divinity, it is a DD Dentists get DDS, and veterinarians get DVM, and in most other fields it’s a PhD, but each is as high as you can get in that field, and many people have Doctorates in more than one field, and ALL of them are entitled to call themselves “Dr. Such-A-One” (although lawyers who do so are rare indeed, unless perhaps they are Law Professors).

Psychiatry is an actual branch of medicine, and a psychiatrist is an MD (one must be, in order to write prescriptions). Many practicing psychologists, even psychoanalysts/psychotherapists (psycho-analrapists), do not have PhD’s, but they don’t necessarily need one to practice (but they can’t call themselves “Dr. Such-A-One” with only a Masters).

Perhaps I’m on point or not, but I feel the need to share this. I am a centrist. I believe that America has become too large to let Churches and other charities take care of the poor and dispossessed. I see the extremely wealthy giving out bulldust and calling it wisdom, so that the middle class with a lean or more to the right think that these pearls are Scripture. All the while, our freedoms are being whittled away by the same right, and the left. It’s a conumdrum. I’ll share the IRL of an article about one of the worst offenders from the right and how they are killing us. Yes, I said killing, any way you look at what they are doing it should be called murder.
