How do you write an expression? .BTW I agree – the answer is (2 * 15) – 6 = 24

The equal sign makes an expression an equation.
In the expression ‘2x + 7’ you can’t solve for x because x can be all numbers, positive & negative including zero.
The equation ‘2x + 7 = 27’ has only one answer, which is 10.2(10) + 7 = 20 +7 = 27
