The biggest immigration reform would be if businesses were required to hire from a pool of people who were officially certified to be citizens or legal residents. Or face prosecution.-Not someone with just an ID that may or may not be legitimate.-In California, a bill was introduced to do just that for farm workers. Republican farmers screamed bloody murder and the bill disappeared.

If the GOP votes for this Democrat Scheme to add up to (eventually) 30 million to legal status in the USA, thereby giving the Democrat Party guaranteed voter majority in the future, and adding millions of low-salary workers paying only FICA, it takes high school grads and college grads to pay IRS taxes, and after 10 years putting heavy costs for benefits at an estimated 4 to 1 ratio (getting 4 times benefits than taxes paid)……the “YES” voters ought to be declared insane and locked into padded rooms in secure facilities, IMO.

^ I read about the proposed legislation in the newspaper, not the ‘net. It was two or three years ago.-Two Republican assemblymen introduced a bill that would have required farmers to hire workers from a state maintained data base of legal residents. Workers would have to register on this data base to get work, eliminating the phony green cards and SSNs.-Primarily, it would eliminate ’plausible deniability’ on the part of farmers hiring illegals.-It was reported that lobbyists representing Republican agriculture interests had a swift and severe reaction and the bill was quietly withdrawn.-If you believe that the powerful agriculture interest is not Republican, you know nothing about California politics or you’re being dishonest. If mickey the libertarian wants to chime in, I would certainly pay attention to what he says.-Ditto, if you think that farmers don’t knowingly hire illegals.

It was only a bill that was introduced. It had not gone through hearings, no amendments or anything. It wasn’t voted on, just dropped. - Not that you would believe anything not on Fox ‘news’ anyway.
