When a district is strong enough “Republican”, “bible belt ethics” lose out to the politics?

Billy Clinton got high fives for cheating on Hillary.

I guess even Dems couldn’t blame him for looking elsewhere.

Conservatives make accusations at Obama and then get upset when liberals respond with comparisons to Bush/Cheney.However, people talk about Sanford, and the conservatives quickly remind everybody about Clinton. The hypocrisy is pretty flagrant. Clinton cheated on his wife and lied to the American people.Sanford cheated on his wife, lied to the people of SC, and used his position in order to visit and maintain his relationship and then LEFT his wife and children to be with his g/f. There are differences. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Sanford conducts himself as a legislator. Did he marry his g/f yet?Amazedly,C.

Hello Orthodox,As a left leaning progressive, it has been hard to frequently point out the hypocrisy and lack of ethical character in those upon whom I depend to address my issues. When a bad democrat wins office over a good republican, only Harry Reid wins. Mr. Boehnor has another republican in his caucus, I wonder how he feels about that.We rarely agree on anything, my Orthodox neighbor, but I admire the tone and eloquence of your post. I can’t imagine why none of the other 16 republicans against whom Sanford ran were unable to beat him. Maybe it’s that mustard based bbq sauce they love in South Carolina. I’ve always been suspicious of that stuff.Seriously tho, thank you for standing on principle. Hypocrisy is evil and self serving, no matter whet her the hypocrite is conservative, or liberal.Respectfully,C.

Maybe because Liberals care about TRUE Family Values – (how do you treat your wife, raise your children, treat others) while many Conservatives in leadership positions seem to feel kindness, honesty, fidelity, and respect are only obligations of the ‘little people’,

Homosexual child raising IS family values, and no one advocates killing babies.

Plain Bill: your comment just made me think of the fact that my “oldest” friend, (since 65) is extremely right-wing southerner, but we’re still friends. He’s offered me “marriage advice concern” recently when my spouse and I were “bickering” over some minor thing for about ten minutes.

Now the interesting part of this is that he’s on wife number three, never had kids of his own, is still “playing around” on the side occasionally. My wife and I have two wonderful kids (who survived as I dealt with my PTSD, which my son now has after 13 years in the military himself) who’ve grown into fine adults, and we’ve been happily married for 43 years. (despite that occasional bickering)

The key here is “liberals” ARE by definition open to new ideas, and at least trying to understand others beliefs, even when they don’t agree, while “conservative” by definition is to stick to dogma or pre-disposed positions and avoiding any change (or improvement) that might resolve issues “peacefully”.

To dislike hatred, prejudice, and war, intensely, is NOT “hate”, it is rational thought. To argue against those who foment hatred, prejudice, and war, is NOT “hateful”, but rather an effort to defend the true sanctity of life, wisdom, and peace in the universes.

Normally Dr, I would agree with you. As a person who was becoming an Edwards fan I found his disloyalty more offensive than Sanford’s. Edwards wife had cancer. Both men are dogs. But what Edwards put his wife through was a different level of wrong. First degree adultory with premeditation and intent to do harm. Sanford was your standard midlife crisis idiot, who has done very very well! Did you hear he’s going to DC? His wife isn’t done with him yet, and she’s healthy and motivated.amazedlyC.
