The story on which this cartoon is based has me quite angry. Our soldiers can’t get their benefits because the DoD and VA computers won’t talk to each other but this corrupt, disloyal, egotist has gotten billions over the last decade in pay off money. I grieve for the women and children of Afghanistan because on the day we leave that nation, they will be thrown back into the world the way it was before we came. I grieve for anyone who is not the RIGHT kind of Muslim, for they will be punished under Shariah law. I grieve for those Afghanis who believed in us and hoped for a better life for their children when they helped us, because they will be punished by terrorists.^It’s time to bring our sons and daughters home and to quit enriching corrupt politicians and contractors with scarce tax dollars.But it is a God Damned shame that legislators and PresidentS, both of them, have let it get to this point. May God judge them appropriately.Sadly,C.
We paid Ahmed Chalabi $35,000 per month during the Bush administration to get intel. Whether it was valuable is open to question. We went from having him sit next to Laura Bush at the State of the Union to raiding his offices and taking his computers to hoping everyone will forget. There has been so much waste, fraud, and loss: I daresay that we have never spent so much money for so little value.
How would our economy be today if we had just gone after OBL, tried him and fried him?
And of course, the other policy issue – the poppy trade.More specifically, the subsidies we provide to supposedlykeep the Taliban in check. Respectful Troll, I hear you.The waste and corruption we’re enabling is disgusting,and as others here have indicated, it’s the same oldstory carried over.
Who offered what? And while we’re on the subject of missed opportunities, let’s not forget two things:
1: Iran was frightened with how quickly we flattened Iraq. They told us (through the Swiss: Bush wouldn’t talk to them directly) that they wanted to negotiate a treaty. We had them where we wanted them. Bush, of course, called them part of the Axis of Evil and told them to go fry ice. Oops once. Of course, once the occupation was so obviously bungled, they lost their initial fear.
2: Clinton had Carter negotiate with the North Koreans. They had plenty of demands, which we ignored. What we learned is that they wanted a peace treaty; we had promised one in the 1950s and had never gotten around to it. By that time, though, we had a new occupant in the White House. And once again, he decided to scrap that and call them part of the Axis of Evil. Oops 2.
I suppose it is always more intriguing to lookover the fence at what’s happening “over there”but people in West Virginia, Taos Puebloand You-Name -The -Town Michigan could very much use those same US dollars..
