The cartoon could apply to nearly any American President. No matter what they’ve done, they’ve upset someone else. As long as we’re in this financial/economic war with Russia and China, there will be “conflicts of interest”.@ Harleyquinn – there have been a few voices in GC who have called for a wait and see attitude, but fix what is broken NOW. We still have plenty of voices taking one side or another, but as predicted, over time, more info is coming out. I’m sorry Ambassador Stevens left the safety of his main office to go to this consulate, tho his history as a diplomat and man of honor makes one expect that he was doing it for a good reason. Why do so many people look ‘back’ at events with such clarity and confidence, without recalling how hard it is to make clear and confident assumptions at the time events are occurring. It’s always easier to know what should have been done after the emergency is over. The following news article from Reuters shows why care and deliberation should be taken before going to war over assumptions.^http://news.yahoo.com/u-n-testimony-syrian-rebels-used-sarin-gas-043557114.html^I still support a no fly zone and a safe zone near the Turkish border, but Mr. Obama’s red line was apparently not crossed by the Assad regime. If he had attacked and then it was discovered this newest report was true, his critics would be loud in their attacks on his ‘bad judgement’.We need more Unity in the United States.Respectfully,C.

Right. Everything is a big gubbermint cover up when a D is in charge.

And when an R is in charge its all about the looney left conspiracy theories by Micahel Moore.

Aren’t we back to the question of why we have no investigative reporting? We have 24-hour coverage of one murder trial. And there are some news readers who will tell you what’s on their tear sheets. This is not unique to any one network; they are all variations on one theme.

Why are we surprised that no one knows anything if we just wait for other people to hand it to us?

And why all this outrage now? I seem to recall 3000 Americans killed in one day, and the explanation was almost totally redacted. Any heads that might have rolled were low-level; higher level incompetence was rewarded. Where was our outrage then? The more we let our representatives get away with, the more they will feel entitled to reach for in the future.

Yes, I remember Benghazi. A CIA spook shop was attacked and the administration at first used a cover story to attempt to protect the secrecy of our intelligence operations in the Middle East, but the rightwing decided it was better to embarrass the president than to serve the best interests of the nation, not only blew up a sad event into a major “crisis” but then went on CSPAN and revealed classified information not only damaging our attempts to help in the Syrian situation but putting Libyans friendly to the United States in danger of their lives. They also played up the deaths of four — or was it only three? — people as if 9/11 had never happened, as if the GOP hadn’t lied about the death of Pat Tillman or the “heroics” of Jessica Lynch or about the need to sacrifice thousands of American lives because of fake WMDs and non-existent ties between al Qaeda and the Iraqi government.

    I remember Benghazi.

Re- Reagan and Russia – Russia was not only concerned about going to war with the USA, but with Britain and France also having respectable nuclear arsenals, Russia was not excited about going to war with Europe. The fact that the dust from a nuclear war in Europe would move east into Russia, poisoning their land and cities with the radiation from their own bombs was an additional concern.Re.- Lincoln. The south chose the stars and bars as their flag in order to entice the British empire to come to their aid. France was readying itself to help the North. But the Czar of Russia sent a famous telegram telling them that if the Western powers interfered with the American’s civil war, Russia would attack Europe. It was this that kept Europe out of the Civil war.Re- The Mexican American war. When Mr. Polk had the chance to realize is dream of Manifest Destiny and take all the land between the east coast and the west coast, he was not necessarily completely ethical about it. There are many who believe the US tricked the Mexican army into firing across the border and while no one was hurt, Polk used the incident to start the war that gave him the US southwest and California. The exact details vary from writer to writer. In my comment, I said “to almost any” American President. Not all.My grasp on history is based on the writers and documentaries to which I’ve been exposed. Perhaps you have a reading list you’d like to suggest? I’ve read some pretty good authors.Respectfully,C.
