I remember the first time someone called me an old woman which really pissed me off because I’m an old man.

The worst was when an old high school boyfriend found me on the Internet and concluded his long letter with, “and now I am an old man….” I thought, “Wow! You must have aged really fast!”

I remember the first time someone asked me if I was eligible for the senior discount, (same as saying you look old) I didn’t handle it well either. I was only 44 and had just touched up my hair that day. The woman who asked looked older than I was! After that my husband and I agreed that any time someone asked, let them give it to you! Soon after that all the young kids working for fast food places like Mickey D’s started giving my husband the discount without asking. Whatever.

You have to remember young people think 30 is old.

Uh, NO. If my wife doesn’t want to sleep next to me, SHE has to go somewhere else. It’s my bed, I’ll sleep there if I want to sleep there.

Growing up, your “old lady” was your mother and your “old man” was your dad. Mum and dad might call each other by those names (particularly if one wasn’t listening and the other was exasperated trying to get their attention). Then suddenly in the 70s “old lady/man” began to be used for one’s main squeeze. I felt confused.

In internet somewhere a teenager, upon hearing I was 35, asked in wonder if people really live to be that old.

I wonder how old did they think their parents were…

I wasn’t called an old woman but I was mistaken for my mother when I was in my mid-thirties. Slightly depressing.

Us too. My OH is 18 yrs older than me. I keep telling him I want him around for our 50th. 20 years to go, and I’ll be 70 then.
