You can see in the next to the last cel that the old “gentleman” takes very good care of naive Gabrielle. Usually “calling it an early night” means there’s more “fun” in store, if you get my drift. Yes, Gabrielle, you have a rough night ahead of you before you meet La who will turn out to be your “Mother”! This was done in 1991. Does anyone know when they stopped doing the Sunday strip? Maybe after Jane found out Tarzan was the father and killed him?

This oddly soap opera quality seems to crop up whenever Tarzan spends too much time in ‘civil society’, to use the term loosely – which is likely why he generally prefers the jungle. Questions of paternity seldom trouble him there.
