Look, I’ve admired Wiley for a number of years….One of the best artists/cartoonists ever….His line drawn renderings and characters stand out….But now that I know he abhors the abomination of anchovies on pizzas, I love him…even one can destroy a whole pizza…Never fall for the “We’ll just get it on one side” line…Those little bastards will devastate the whole thing….

I said it yesterday. Wiley, you have done it with this one. Superb work. And, in the end , Daddy is there for his little girl. Marvelous. May you forever be blessed with your skill and wit, Wiley.

When I came back here after posting (the first one today) it was a double post. So I deleted one…..and both disappeared.

Today’s strip is one of WIley’s best.In the second panel we see Danae as she really is – just a little girl with ideas. And a very caring dad.

No, no, no, the whole idea with anchovies has been lost (or perhaps perverted) in recent years. You chop them up fine, and sprinkle across the pizza-scape evenly. Yes, going along and suddenly getting a big dose of salty-fishy is awful, and just wrong. Like many meats, think of it as a condiment!

anchovies should be only used in tapenade, not a pizza topping. or, used in some southeast asian cuisine.

San Francisco has a local chain restaurant called “Pizza O r g a s m i c a”, and their tag line is “We Never Fake It”. When I was out there on a business trip and stopped by a restaurant, they had the “Divorce Pizza”: cheese with onions, garlic, peppers, anchovies, and other vile concoctions.

My first post (which disappeared) was about pineapple on pizza. I was surprised to find I like it. I as at a pizza buffet once, and while waiting for the pizzas I wanted I tried the pineapple. It’s good, but I still need my pepperoni, which I usually start and end with when at the buffet.

@thebird55.Are you two talking about just pineapple+cheese+tomato-pizza-sauce, classified as just “Pineapple Pizza”…??.Cause there’s another Pizza called “Hawaiian Pizza”. Very much like “Classic Pepperoni & Cheese Pizza” but with Pineapple chops on it. It quite popular here in Singapore especially with children… I still very much enjoy them.

Once when I was a kid, I asked if we could have anchovies on a pizza, and my parents said yes, just to teach me a lesson. The joke was on them; turned out that I loved them. I still put them on my pizzas. Anchovies and pepperoni. Can’t beat it.

If you don’t want some one else stealing your pizza, learn to like anchovies. OR you could use escargot!

Sorry, team. I work on the basis that, like Scotch and soda, or Jack and Coke, anchovies and pizza belong together. The main reason God invented pizza was to provide and ideal framework for consuming anchovies.

I love anchovies. Back in the 70’s I worked pizza shops; one place had an anchovy-only pizza called The Idiot’s Delight. Dreamy. Maybe I should add them to my Banquet from Hell; nah, too common.

Thank you all for your kind words. But there are those who disagree with you about Danae. Here’s an e-mail I received from a reader a couple of days ago. Thought I’d share it with you good folks who frequent this forum. You will note that he starts off by misspelling my name…-—————————————————————————————Dear Wylie,I like Non Sequitur whenever Danae is absent (kind of like Garfield Minus Garfield). Normally when I spot Danae in the strip I don’t even stop, just go on by. Today I thought I’d stop by just to arm myself and rattle your cage again, re: The Bitch. I suppose you consider her to be a lovable scamp a la Dennis Mitchell, but Dennis, if not humorous, is a least not mean-spirited.

I think you should do your readers a favor and deep-six the liccle tyke.Yours,Ralph Hile

The hardest thing for a cartoon artist must be to have his characters age, as in Gasoline Alley, and Funky Winkerbean. and Doonesbury. Why do some artists do it, while some don’t? I think Charles Schulz briefly drew his characters as teenagers, and it was bizarre and disturbing. I suppose it depends upon what the artist is trying convey.
