The graffiti— untrue. The domesticated silver fox is the result of 50 years selective breeding of the silver morph of the red fox. The experiment, begun in the Soviet Union and continued after the fall of the government, was specifically to determine if deliberate domestication of wild animals was possible. The domesticated version of the animal has many dog-like traits, physically as well as temperamentally (suggesting that those genes are linked), and is truly domesticated, craving and seeking out human company instinctively. They can be purchased for for about $9000, and the money goes to the continued care and study of these creatures.
