    “Which” introduces a nonrestrictive clause, and Mom knows it — she’s just yanking his chain. :-D

    Except for one comment educational comments. I thought either which or that would work or a book.

    “That” and “which” are both used for inanimate objects. “Who” is for people. “This is the book that I borrowed” is correct. “This is the book, which I borrowed” is also correct. The difference is that using the “which” is almost like putting the next part in parentheses. Note the comma before the “which.”

    I would just say “this is the book I borrowed” and skip the whole dilemma.

    I was an English teacher of college freshmen, and didn’t know about all that ‘that" and “which” stuff. I’d say they are interchangeable in this case, but would use “that” because it sounds better. Mebbe I wasn’t that great uv a English teacher.
