Aber Oliver, in letzter Zeit ist es nicht ein Colt 45, ist es ein Glock! Eine große österreichische Exportwirtschaft.

Carved into a mountain a by member of the Ku Klux Klan on land stolen from the Lakota tribe. Considering the bloody history of manifest destiny the six shooter is the only thing missing from that monument as far as symbolism is concerned.

Sam Colt’s “machine” was considered “revolutionary” in allowing a whole SIX rounds to be carried at one loading. As omQR notes, that is NOT the problem today, but the 30 to 100 rounds that can now be carried, and fired at roughly 100 times the “rounds per minute” an average shooter could manage with a “Peacemaker”, which folks don’t realize, with the ammunition available back then, wasn’t very accurate beyond about 10 feet.

And, it is NOT the “assault rifle”, but the assault SHORT BARREL WEAPONS, like Glock, Uzi, MAC, etc that are far more often used in criminal, and “mass killing” situations. The difference is that your average gang-banger “drive by” is so common, it doesn’t get the press that a school shooting, or “good neighborhood” event with fewer killed and less “collateral damage”. But, where the founding fathers considered “Common Sense” a document worth reading, and wrote the Constitution, today’s “gun nuts” (not gun OWNERS per se) only read one half of the Second Amendment, and have little “common sense” when it comes to what folks actually need for “home defense” where they are NOT in “military – grade militias”.

“We have the National Guard and a standing army.”

Both of which are government sanctioned, and both of which are (almost by definition) armed. And one of which existed when the 2nd Amendment was written.

Do you believe that the founding fathers found it necessary to establish a constitutional right for the army to be armed? No, it (the 2nd) was clearly addressing the civilians’ rights. After all, the militia was the populace. And the populace still exists.
