It’s the hard truth every pet owner faces. Got a friend who’s there right now. Our dog is only 6, so that’s a ways down the road for us.

Having a home euthanasia is worth the money. I worked at a clinic for only a month, it was heartbreaking how many people just dropped their dogs off to be put down, and left. The poor things always looked bewildered..

I’ve been there. I still bawl like a baby sometimes over my fur-babies.

The vet came to the house and I held her in my arms. I feel I gave her the best life and had to let her go the same way.

I think it is their absolute trust that makes it so hard. They are so excited to go for a ride with Dad! They are a worthy pack member and getting some special attention. They wag and smile right up to the end. It is unbelievably hard to bear. But they are so worth it!

I think we all have had this sad experience, whether with a dog or a cat. Lost one of each last year. Have only a dog now.

It’s been 6 months since I said goodbye to my girl and there’s tear in my eyes now! Saw a bumper sticker on the way to work the other day that said “Love my Labrador”…cried the rest of the way in. she was my best friend and I’ll always miss her….

When either of my 2 have to go, my wife knows to take care of everything because I will be an unconsolable basket case.

Very touching and very true. Our old kitty is 15 now, and not in the best health. Fortunately, at the moment he is still eating and drinking and has pretty good energy. The toughest part is cuddling him and feeling that sad, boney back. He used to be such a big cat. Still, we’re lucky to have had him so long.

I can’t believe the timing of this strip. We just had to put down our dog Remington today and we had him 15 years

A good vet can make it easier. Ours always said, “If it is eating and sleeping well, it is still having a good life.” The penultimate check-up was, “Not there yet, but it’s getting close.” Finally, “It’s time.” And did it herself and wouldn’t charge. “I never charge those who take good care of them, and you have.” Thanks, Eve.

@ coraryan, She hates Chows? What else does she hate? Black cats, German Shepherds, etc. She should NOT be running the Humane Society! She shouldn’t even be working in a shelter, the WITCH!

swr, yes the long ride home is even longer. And the hme feels as though a very important part of it is missing.

I have had many dogs and cats over the years, and it never gets easier, or hurts any less. And yet, we still keep doing it, don’t we? But if we didn’t, our lives would be emptier, and some poor cat or dog would not be alive through no fault of their own.

The ride back home is long and incredibly sad when your eyes are filled with tears and your best friend is dead beside you in a box going home to be buried in the yard…….>^..^<

That ‘longest ride’ statement really hurt. Even now, years later, the images will come back and so does the emotion. The loss of a beloved pet is just as much pain as the loss of a loved human…

In loving memory of Miss Socks, my mom’s dog, who made that last car ride last year. She might have had cancer, too, she was losing weight rapidly, and she did have a “benign” tumor on her chest. Miss you, girlfriend. :(

After I picked up the ashes of my Dear Sweet Sugar Pie I turned on the radio and guess what song was playing, of all the songs in the world. It was a good-bye from her. Still crying over that. :o(

My vets have been kind enough to come out to my car, and my kids, so I was able to hold them as they passed. It’s not a loss you ever forget… but the joys they brought…? They were immeasurable. Their love remains.
