Shouldn’t that be "begin again "? (Unless she really IS a clone)

New theory, she’s an amnesia victim who looked a little like MM and it’s the plastic surgery that is healing

MM… close your legs, young lady, that isn’t “Lady-like”

“Dr. Sail says it’s taken years to bring me back.” Now that’s a loaded statement. Exactly how long has Mysta been self-conscious? What else does she believe only because Dr. Sail says so?“My life will truly begin!” As in begin again (revived Mysta), or begin for the first time (cloned Mysta)? Also, what exactly does Mysta have in mind for living her “life”? We know she’s been stalking Sparkle and thinks of Junior as her “husband.” Hmmm.

“I hope this Mysta won’t become violent over how her family has changed over the years. She displays such power.”She was tempermental and used to zap people all the time. No telling what she might do now that she’s been cooped up so long and frustrated about not seeing her family. Watch out world, here comes Mysta the wildcat!

Clone-Moon Maid is raring to go! It must be difficult, being a self-aware clone with memories as if the original. How her sensibilities play out will be interesting to see….

It seems likely to me that this creature is, at least in part, a clone of Notta Chin Chillar. It’s really the only sensible explanation for why her face is covered: Dr Sail hasn’t fixed the beard situation yet.

How delightful it is to see Mysta in her moon-themed boudoir. Her joy at being nearly fully recovered is palpable as her feet leave the ground. Careful wording by Team Tracy leaves us to walk a tightrope of speculation. It has indeed taken years to bring back Moon Maid. Better late than never, in this fan’s view…

I am worried about the tragedy this may become—where Moon Maid learns that Junior hasn’t forgotten her, but moved past her death and remarried. I foresee another tragic end to the Moon Maid by the end of this storyline. Terrific art as always guys—and good storytelling too in what must be a difficult medium to work.

Oh and Morning, Vista Bill et al…

This whole Moon Maid storyline is playing with fire, and I suspect that Mike and Joe know it.

There seems to be little middle ground; people are either Moon Maid fans or Moon Maid foes. Foes have already been offended by the reintroduction of the character, even if her true nature is, as yet, unknown. But I suspect fans will be offended if Mysta ends up being any kind of fake, to include a clone – either of herself or Notta Chin Chillar (as speculated by ScipioGarling).

If I were a Moon Maid Foe, I think I’d be rooting for Mysta to be a clone, as speculated by Sysiphos. As Sullie (tsull2121) would be quick to say, and I fully agree, a clone, or any other kind of fake, is entitled to nothing because it simply isn’t the same person.

It is my belief that, if this is a clone or any other kind of fake, the story will end rather abruptly thereafter. In fact, in my humble opinion, if this Mysta is a clone or any other kind of fake, she loses all value to the strip, whatsoever.

Unless Mike and Joe want to make her into a Tracy “ueber-villain.” And I don’t think any of us want to see that. (Moon Governor as villain, maybe, but Mysta? Never!)

Other newsworthy stuff from the weekend: While it was Sail who mentioned calling Diet Smith, the man with a known connection with Smith is the old Ghote himself. And remember, from 1979, when the Mumbles clone story was winding down, it was Diet Smith himself who told Dr. Zy Ghote that, inspite of his crimes, inspite of his upcoming jailtime, Diet Smith still believed in the old Ghote. This has got to be the criminal slant to the story.

This is Dick Tracy, after all. There has to be a crime going on somewhere in this story!

I’m still convinced the good doctor still can’t clone a toenail, which is my answer to the Chin Chillar clone theory: If Ghote wanted the fame and glory of having created a clone, he could have done that with Notta – or perhaps, even better, her brother Purdy, giving new “life” (if that’s what you want to call it) for her vegetative brother.

It still doesn’t make a lick of sense to have given memories to a “clone” Mysta. If anything, this helps your critics challenge the veracity of your “clone”! It just doesn’t make any sense.

In the mean time, many bones have been tossed, so to speak. Rather than try to speculate what Mike and Joe have up their sleeves, here’s the story I might have written, if it were up to me:

    (1) Somewhere, there is a “plausible” reason for Mysta to have survived the blast. But good story telling means that this will be the last to be told, perhaps in a “flashback” a couple months from now.

    (2) Ghote is still trying to stiff Smith for millions, hence yet another fake clone. That Mysta is “real” is the real reason she has the memories, not that Ghote or Sail “gave” them to her – or had any real motive to do so, if she were a clone.

    (3) Because Ghote is planning a major crime, Mysta will be paraded on a tour as if she were a clone. I’m banking on Junior to be the one who sees through the charade!

And now, the easy part is over. In fact, the rest of the story may have to fall into subsequent “arcs.”

The rest of the story would have to include what happens to Junior and Sparkle, of course.

By the by, I don’t think Mysta was “stalking” Sparkle and company. That radio concert was open to the public. I don’t think there were any rules forbidding Moon Maids or ex-wives from attending that concert.

Nevertheless, Sparkle and company being there was the reason Mysta was there. But I still don’t think that was “stalking.” (Following them home, now that’s another story, but that didn’t happen)

I continue to believe that the Montana Joe “cut-away” is to provide a soft landing for this admittedly sticky situation.

In the meantime, I’m still waiting for Mumbles to show up. After all, a major crime is being planned, and his expertise will be needed – whether the old Ghote wants it or not!

Of course, if Mike and Joe really want to “blow us away,” they could go with the Chin Chillar clone – only to be busted up by the “real” Moon Maid, when she catches up with them!

And I wouldn’t want to be any of them when Mysta catches up with them!

And that’s my bedtime story for today. Good night already!

Perhaps Dr. Sail is scamming Dr. Zy Ghote. Ghote THINKS his “technology” worked, but since he let Sail do most of the work, Sail somehow brought in the real Mysta to fool Ghote. Ghote thinks they are partners in some undertaking, but Sail has a hidden agenda. Just another theory.

Ken in Ohio: The cynic in me loves your theory. It probably makes even more sense than what I wrote. The only fly in the ointment is, I’m coming to believe that perhaps Sail is on the up-and-up, as well.

Witness his telling of the story of Retik and Stellaluna.

On the other hand, maybe we’re dealing with two con men here, and both are trying to pull the fast one over each other…

It’s time for Mysta to get the heck out of there!

The last two days of this strip have been very “Anti-Climactic”.. nothing really has happened and quite honestly.. sundays and todays strips are rather boring.

Honeymoon reads online that someone says they know she has magnetic powers, then she wonders how they knew that, then just simply GOES TO BED?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?!

Then we have moon maid lite today jumping around like a monkey happy that she can take her bandages off in a matter of hours (to us tho it will be i believe another 5 days) but just the other day she was DEMANDING that dr sail remove them?!?!?!? very strange indeed.

Mikeyj and Sweet Betty: Thank you for noting the “un-ladylike” pose. I wondered whether to mention it myself, but remembered the furor raised a few weeks ago when making comments in a similar vein.

If I have real requests of Mike and Joe, it would have to be these:

    (1) That this Mysta is the “real deal,” and

    (2) I want some “meat” to this story – not just “skin”!

Mysta has a story to tell – now, on with the story!

I truly hope for a good ending for this subplot. Mysta is a perfect example of a hero protagonist and she pulls at the heartstrings of all who knew and loved (the original)? Mysta.

But being a long time fan of the strip, I cannot help but be the devil’s advocate here.

For now, I will keep my thoughts to myself.

The point is that Mysta is not a lady. Never has been. She’s a moon female and a wild child. How she dresses and how she acts is typical of moon women, and especially one who was raised a princess. Victorian styles and mores? Not so much. The way the new Mysta is being presented is right in keeping with that legacy. Frankly, it’s part of her charm and popularity. The wild clothes, the wild hair, the gymnast moves, the diva poses, the wild and unpredictable behavior. That’s Mysta! I’m glad Curtis and Staton have brought back this great character in a way that rings true to the original.

What Staton has reintroduced is the iconic Moon Maid look. I’ve posted this before, and it’s probably worth linking again. Mysta’s outfit is virtually an exact match with the ensemble she wore between 1967 and 1969, when the Space Era was at its peak. Whatever people may think of her appearance, it’s certainly representative of her look during her 14-year run in the strip. Most of the changes that took place during that time were merely variations on a theme. Just as it was typical between 1964-1973 for Moon Maid to wear moon fashions whether at work or at home, it shouldn’t seem strange that she’s wearing them while hiding out at her headquarters. Given her fashion sense and history, it would seem odd if she wasn’t.Mysta over the years

UNLADYLIKE??? …that’s the most RIDICULOUS comment I’ve read here in quite awhile…..and coming from one of our best and most intelligent posters, to boot! Ummmmm…….she’s in the room ALONE, duhhh….Golly gee, she’d better not take a shower and wash herself all over, or anything like that, huh? She’d be a downright trollop, lol. And from my perspective, saying it’s unladylike for a female to jump in the air cheerleader style, but obviously ok for a guy to do….is also sexist as hell! Maybe she should wear a veil too, I guess……except, of course, when she’s in the kitchen doing dishes or other “woman’s work”……..

Ghote is still trying to stiff Smith for millions, hence yet another fake clone. That Mysta is “real” is the real reason she has the memories, not that Ghote or Sail “gave” them to her – or had any real motive to do so, if she were a clone.**

anyone remember the movie “COMA” from back in the 70’s (i think?)

the doctor (i am going from memory here so dont get all over me if i get the details wrong) had a patient that was in a coma, and while she was unconscious, he taught her math, etc… ya think maybe if Ghote/Sail cloned moon maid after she became a splattery horizon they did the same thing during the cloning process? ya know, like “read” her what her memories were SUPPOSED to be?
