This thread and the posts remind me of the TV series of M*A*S*H when Blake pulls out all the letters Klinger had claimed he had received from his parents: his mother dying; father dying; mother and father dying; mother dying, older sister pregnant; and the ‘old but a goodie’ was half the family dying, other half pregnant.Blake asks Klinger if he’s ashamed of himself for trying this all the time. He says, “Yes. I don’t deserve to be in the Army.”

I told her she should’ve said aunt instead of mother. You only have one mother but you can have unlimited aunts!

I used the grandmother excuse. She lived in Mississippi (me in Missouri), so I was able to get a whole week off.
