The US is not arming militants, at least, if we are, we’ve done a better-than-usual job of keeping it secret. We’ve agreed to supply non-military aid — food, clothing, etc. because the Islamists have been filling those roles to get the population on their side, proving that they can be pretty smart.
The US may not be directly arming the Syrian rebels. But the Saudis buy their weapons, and their allies who sell to them (including the US) have a pretty good idea how they will be used and where they might be going.

Where did you get the idea that the USA isn’t involved? We’re arming the Muslim extremists.
