It will be good when this issue is no longer a topic used to keep Americans from focusing on debt, healthcare, infrastructure, and many other concerns in which the gov’t actually needs to involve itself.Happy Easter, Neighbors.May your Easter Eggs be colorful, your Cadbury eggs on sale, your Easter services/events uplifting to your spirits, and any spirits you imbibe, uplifting. ;)Respectfully,C.
"You are the only one talking about race here, so that makes you the racist, doesn’t it?I firmly believe that most Republicans don’t care about the President’s skin color. What really bothers them a non-Republican dared win and retain the Presidency.Everything else (the President’s religion, place of birth, et cetera) is a bunch of empty BS designed to keep the rubes in the sticks distracted.
“This ‘issue’ is the smokescreen so the libs won’t have to deal with real life issues like debt, a budget…”Saying it’s a smokescreen implies people supporting equality don’t really care. That’s just flat out wrong. If YOU feel like it’s not important & distracting from more important issues, quit arguing about it. Tell your elected representatives to quit wasting their time on fighting gay marriage so we ALL can move on equally to more important issues, which we & our elected representatives can’t agree on anyway.
That’s the part I don’t get — Obama tries to govern from the center, and gets called a Kenyan socialist. Which, of course, it total horse-pucky, and no conservative can actually point to anything radical about what he’s done. You make up crap like he hates capitalism, or supports death panels, or wants to take your guns, none of which is remotely based in truth. If it’s not about race (though you won’t say it out loud), what accounts for all of the lies and distortions of his record?
“we don’t give a flip about the color of a persons skin but the content of their chareter as one republican put it”If that were true, the likes to Rush Limbaugh, Mark Sanford, and Rick Scott would have been lambasted by party faithful.
I actually think Roberts might swing with kennedy on this. and I tend to be a pessimistic person.scalia and Thomas’s opinion have already been written in these comics.
@swr and trustedmechanicI have an advanced degree in politics (international law and political history) and swr is clueless about the history he claims to understand.of course since I do have a degree, and I am educated in the subject (and have continued my education through travel and examination of primary sites and documents throughout the world) SWR may dismiss my opinion out of hand. I’m one of those brainwashed, ‘low-education libs’ looking for free stuff.thanks TrustedMechanic. btw, I worked my way through school as an auto mechanic and on scholarships. (oh yeah, facts DO have a liberal bias).
“Really, who is standing you your way of marrying your gay lover? Just tell me who it is and I’ll tell them to get out of your way.”Marrying once was enough for me, though it didn’t stick. Sounds like it may have been one time too many for you. :^DThere are only 9 states that allow same sex marriage, 10 if we count CA. Republicans at all almost all levels of office waste time on legislation to restrict marriage. House Republicans wasted tax dollars trying to defend DOMA. More & more Republicans are realizing that this is an issue that ultimately costs them more votes than it gains.I think helping others gain freedoms & rights that I enjoy, makes my freedoms & rights even stronger. Unless you buy into the religious arguments against same sex marriage, there just isn’t any point in opposing it.
The smoke screen started in 1996 when the Republican Congress passed DOMA, and took what had long been a state issue and made it into a Federal issue to mobilize part of their base in the 1996 elections. Clinton could of vetoed the bill but he didn’t want to give the Republicans a wedge issue in an election year, so he signed it.Bush used gay marriage as smoke screen in 2004 so he wouldn’t have to deal with the real issue of the war in Iraq. Gay marriage was probably the deciding issue in Bush winning Ohio, the state that decided the election. The fact that Supreme Court took these cases is something the Administration or Congress has no control over.
“I notice you don’t name my reference, still ashamed of the dem history of racism and bigotry? I agree sanford is a dufus. and i enjoy limbaugh in the same way i enjoyed carlin.”Yes, the Democratic Party has a shameful past of supporting slavery and bigotry. And, Yes, Lincoln led the Republican Party to end slavery. As has been stated many a time before, the two parties seemed to have switched sides with the passing of civil rights legislation in the 1960s. The civil rights opposing “Dixiecrats” left the Democratic Party in protest and took their bigotry with them. Today it’s the Republican Party who includes members such as former KKK Grand Dragon David Duke, Jon Hubbard, and Loy Mauch

Don’t count on it. Kennedy can still side with the conservatives.

This cartoon would be even better with a blindfolded Scalia swinging at a pinata.
