Yesterday my roommate’s teenage brother and me went to BJ’s (near Yankee Stadium) using public transportation. We had to walk about 10 minutes after getting off the bus. I bouhjt $110 worth of groceries because I don’t want to do this errand again for a long time – I got a free 60-day trial membership. Of course we brought my shopping cart. I came home very tired and went to sleep early which is why I’m writing this now instead of 5 1/2 hours earlier.
Today is the annual Turkish Day parade, something I look forward to every year.
Our cleaning lady comes today, and we plan our “errands” in town for this day. Farmer’s market will be our first stop. Probably will be very little produce, but some places sell seedlings. We can get a head start on some veggies that way.

We finally got a 1/4 inch of rain yesterday! Woo Hoo!
Good morning, Vagabonds. The Turkish parade was wonderful in spite of a few drops of rain. Since I knew I’d be doing a lot of walking, I took my rollator. I rarely use my rollator and found that I must stoop when I use it (I’m not that tall, though, only 5’feet 71/2) Also my elbows hurt from stretching when I used the rollator. I did do a lot of walking because after the parade was over there was a music performance at UN Plaza, a long walk from the parade. A lot of Azeris (the Turkish parade involves more than people from Turkey but also from other Turkic-speaking countries: Azerbaijan, Kyrgzstan, Uzbekistan and the Uighur Autonymous area of China) came over to meet me because I wore a tee-short with a big Azerbaijan flag and also wrote on it about a Turkish football (soccor) team, Fenerbahce. Some people even wanted to take my photos – every tear people do this at the parade.
Unfortunately, my own subway station has no elevaor or escalator (one advantage, though, I live right next to the subway entrance). So I began pushing the rollator up 2 flights of stairs. usually people offer to help, but there was no one able to help this time. I reached the street exhausted. I hope I’ll be able to attend the parade for many more years, though. There’s more ethnic parades this summer: Israel, Pakistan and India.
Had a great time at the community Sports Day yesterday. It was so rewarding to see so many smiling faces on those mentally and physically challenged children. They loved the jet skis most I think. At the fish tank every kid caught a fish. Every kid who got on the ham radio talked to someone in Europe. They also enjoyed the kayaks, pontoon boat, hand cycles, speedboat, paintball target shoot, golf, petting zoo, pony rides and softball. The softball game was especially exciting. A girl’s Little League team was there to play against the participants. And the Little League girls played just terrible enough to guarantee that each of the participants got a Home Run. On one play, a girl hit a grounder to the pitcher’s mound. In a normal game, it would have been an easy out. The Little Leaguer dived on it. Then another girl called it and dived on top of her. Then there was a pile-up, which allowed the batter to pass second. Then two Little Leaguers started “fighting” over who had possession of the ball, allowing the runner to round third and head for home. Then a well-placed throw over the catcher’s head allowed the runner to score! It was hilarious!

We’ve been watching the Indy Car qualifying for the big Indy 500 race. Today is Bump Day. Always fun to see the “big” guys get bumped by a rookie or lesser known driver.
