Without sounding patronizing, I know a few gay couples that have children. What I observed is they are typically more engaged with their kids school, social environment and make a concerted effort to create a loving and secure home environment.

I am a straight male and have a gay sibling who has opened my eyes in many ways to this whole discussion. My sister (and many others) all repeated one point: they didn’t elect to change their sexual preference, they were born that way. Like it or not, our society is finally (hopefully) evolving to a point where we can truly accept this whole scenario without prejudice and discrimination.

^Generally the news outlets lean towards their own profits, and they tend to be right leaning, that is true.it’s just the loud right has moved so far to the right, and has unfortunately chosen to keep goiing further that way, so they can claim centrists are now left.if you look at any republican president in the past 50 years (with the possible exception of dubya) the current crop of republicans would consider them left wing socialist marxists (add your own emotionally charged word here). This does not mean that they are or that the country is leaning left. just the loud right has moved so far to the right in order to make their accusations seem realistic.

While I do feel the LGBT “issue” has indeed been blown out of proportion in recent years, what’s been suppressed, repressed, and downplayed, is the attack on our FREEDOMS, and RIGHTS, from sources like the “Patriot Act”, “Military Commissions Act”, and yes “Defense of Marriage Act”. The real threats of a “boot heel” state, not a “mommy state”, have come from THE RIGHT!

“Provide for the common defense, ensure domestic tranquility, and provide for the general welfare” aren’t just “issues” in the preamble, they are the most critical elements the rest of the document is written to preserve.

The Bill of Rights, is also intended, as is Article Six, to protect folks FROM religious doctrines enforced by the state, not just with regard to formal designation of a “state religion”. “So help me God”, by the way is NOT a part of the oath of office, as the word “God”, doesn’t even appear in the Constitution. Washington said it on his own, and it became “traditional”. “Traditional” is often a bad idea to enforce. Remember, both Jewish and Islamic law call for stoning to death as punishment for a lot of “crimes” we today call misdemeanors, or not crimes at all, so maybe we DO need to remember it is those “biblical traditions” that are indeed banned by the Constitution!

While I oppose the gay lifestyle, I have known gay parents and children of gay parents. I must echo the words of mickey1339. The parents I know are very nurturing and involved in education and upbringing. They do not try to make the kids into gay citizens as some would suggest. Some of these kids are competitive atheletes, competing in contact sports and are leaders on their team. The parents are both Male and female. the children are both male and female.

Those are your pseudo-Christian beliefs. I believe that people like you are ignorant, hateful, and full of crap. Does that mean I get to start changing laws to deny you equal rights and protection under the constitution?

^yes it is. why don’t you right wing religious nut jobs just openly admit that DOMA was intended to discriminate against gays. It’s obvious, it’s transparent, it’s true, it’s in the congressional record.if you want to show your disapproval then join your dear friends in the westboro Baptist church and protest at funerals of murdered children and veterans or do whatever you want to do. creating a law whose sole purpose is to discriminate against a class of people, on a federal or state level, is NOT an appropriate way to show your moral indignation, what’s more it’s not consistent with the US constitution.

“Are you asking us to generalize from the few gay couples that you know to the conclusion that gay couples are better than hetro couples at raising children?”.That is not a reasonable conclusion.I don’t think that’s the conclusion he’s drawing. I think the conclusion is that same sex parents make fine children, which many official “groups” like pediatricians and psychologists agree with.one of the reasons that they do generally make great parents is they have to overcome pretty high hoops in order to ‘get’ children. they really want children, unlike many hetero’s who prove time and time again that human life is cheap and easily reproducible.the bay parents I know, have adopted disadvantaged children that no one else wants. I strongly recommend you read the books by dan savage about the child with high risk for fetal alcohol syndrome that he adopted.while many heteros want a “PERFECT” baby, the gay parents who are willing to jump through all the hoops are overjoyed to have ANY baby. And a warm nurturing family is better than an unwanted childhood in an orphanage or abusive home.whats interesting is the same people who are opposed to abortions of unwanted pregnancies, are the same people who would deny these children a nurturing home with loving parents. disgraceful.

^I couldn’t agree with you more Gore Bane. Can you imagine foster children, abused children, orphaned children denied a loving home with nurturing parents because in their opinion it isn’t a “perfect” family?disgraceful!

^I know quite a few heathers and harolds. the only thing that is confusing is why people are saying their parents are evil wicked people who do not and should not have rights.maybe you should explain it to them.
