The more you say such things, the more you insult my ancestors.[]I come from a long line of farming & ranching people on my dad’s side of the family… and I’m probably whiter than you are.[]Once upon a time, if you weren’t in a skilled trade or working for Uncle Sam, odds were that you were a farmer or rancher. []In fact, a significant factor in why family size was so large up until the 1900s was because if you were a farmer or rancher there was an economic advantage: your kids could help you and your wife tend the homestead, removing the need to hire additional labor. []The issue with the use of illegal immigrants as farm & ranch labor stems in part from the nation increasingly moving away from agriculture and even manufacturing and towards service as the main economic activity.[]And before you say anything, my folks have fruit trees on their property. I frequently help harvest said fruit whenever it comes in. It may be a far cry from what my ancestors used to do, but at least I understand where the food supply comes from.
