Moms are entitled to make mistakes, Ellie…and kids will get sick whether you’re angry with them or not. Kids forgive and forget quite easily when they’re young; it’s only when they become young adults that they suddenly recall every single wrong you did them…lol…and….then they suddenly treat their kids just as you treated them, errors and all.
yes being mean or angry at the ones you love is the wrong way. they may not be here tomorrow and love is hte only answer in treating others, especially those you love the most.

I stayed in the hospital with my son about 16 years ago for the whole week he was in there. He was only 6 weeks old and I’d been about to return to work when he got sick. It took the doctors awhile to figure out what was wrong.
1952 – grade school. (7th or 8th)We had a course called Health – similar to today’s, but stopped before they got to the good parts.One girl got disgusted, threw down her book and said:“I HATE HEALTH!”To which someone responded:“Well, get sick then!!”
Most dad’s I know today, would have been at the hospital with his wife and daughter when the child was taken in. They would just take any extra kids along if there was no one to watch them, and waited in the waiting room.
When I was in 4th grade I went in to have surgery to get my tonsils out and tubes in my ears. My parents only came to see me on the couple of days I was in there right after the surgery then only for about an hour after they ate dinner for the next two nights. So no some parents don’t stay with their kids the whole time. The other 3 kids in the room were visited the same amount as I was. :(
How sad, Becky. I’m a mom to one kid and they wouldn’t be able to drag me out of there if my son were ever to have to stay overnight. Cot, pillow, blanket and me…next to his hospital bed.
For those of you who want to beat Elly up because she ’won’t stay with Lizzie in the hospital’, you are apparently too young to remember that back then, you handed your child over and got out of the way.
And, fwiw, thirty years ago I was prevented from staying with my child when she was hospitalized. She was only five, but no, she’s fine, go away.
It’s nice to know there are some of you who are perfect parents, who never get cross, never make a tactical mistake, never get your timing muddled.
Whether a parent is allowed to stay varied a lot back then especially if you lived in a smallish town. 20 years ago living in a small town my sister was was not allowed to stay in the room with her very sick child except for a brief visiting period – we thought that was the norm until the child was moved to a children’s hospital in the state’s capital and they allowed her to sleep at her bedside the whole time which was their standard. Nowadays parents exert their rights more when it comes to authority figures like doctors and hospital administrators.
Reminds me of when my son had to stay in the hospital for a few days. I would stay a while ,go home to take care of my other son. Get him to bed, then go back to the hospital. One night sitting by baby’s bedside, I drifted off to sleep. Later when I was reading the nurse’s comments, she said " had a restful night, sleeping peacefully." I thought she was talking about me. I was so embarrassed. But she was noting that my son was sleeping peacefully. lol

As we mentioned yesterday, some hospitals didn’t allow parents to stay with children back in the day. According to some commenters, some still don’t.
