If it is such a tidalwave why have no state’s voters ever passed it, not the legislators the people themselves. California couldn’t even get it passed.
“I’ve seen it as “Jesus Hates Fags” on T-Shirts”i find it difficult to take anyone, like rickf1968, seriously when they claim they are speaking for jesus.what kind of hubris is that?
“t is not so much they “approve” david.”How very elitist of you to presume what people think, despite what they say. Even if it were true that most people couldn’t care less, that should mean the people who are affected & want a right granted to other Americans should have that right. Government should support individual rights, unless they conflict with someone else’s.
How is this even still an issue? The second decade of the 21st century in the United States of America and the Supreme Court is STILL deciding if everyone is equal. We just have to do better than this as a nation. Just have to.
In truth, this is irrelevant. We are a republic, not a pure democracy because the founders believed we have inalienable rights – not rights provided by the majority. This is what prevents mob rule. Having said that, the issue as I see it is equal protection, and the current laws do not provide that, on this matter. The government is basically issuing a contract, and determining arbitrarily who can engage in that contract. That is where any “defense of marriage” fails.
I think most of the Justices are smart enough to know that’s a bogus proposition. If a couple marries in a state that recognizes their marriage, does it dissolve if they move to a state that does not? The idea just does not work. The only way the moderate Justices can kick this down the road, is to issue a narrow ruling striking down DOMA, then wait for a future case from a couple that married & moved as I described above. That might give them a couple years before a definitive ruling.I don’t think the Court is going to endorse the gradualist/state rights argument.
funny until 598 ad when a roman emperor declared momosexualaty illegal nobody cared and religion didnt bother with marrage it was a civil matter until clergy started to use it to control royalty and commoners
you show me how adam and steve can pro-create together – why don’t all men date men and all women date women and see how much longer humans exist. the Bible was around before Jeebus as you call him walked the earth it did not come into existance after him. You would do well to study a little yourself. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord…. I would rather believe in Him and there be no heaven when I die than not believe in Him and find out I was wrong – as then it will be too late, as you may well soon find out..

Marriage was founded by God – it is God’s union between Man & Woman. If you don’t believe God’s Word – why use God’s Word in your union.. just saying.
Jesus love’s the sinner – he hate’s the sin..
