“Thank you, Israel! We’re with you!” Who’s “we”? To paraphrase President Bush, I’m not with them. I’m against them. I am against any kind of support for Israel and Palestine until the two get serious about peace. Both sides are guilt of continuing the cycle of conflict. Both sides have committed of crimes against innocent civilians. Neither side deserves our support.

Wow. A supreme effort in right-wing incoherence and incomprehension. The most touching part of Obama’s speech wasn’t even from a script. Or maybe you think there was a secret teleprompter? You really should read the news from time to time, you’d look less like an ignoramus.

I often read the Haaretz and have often posted url links to their articles. It is an excellent newspaper. When I was in Israel, it was the newspaper I read every morning before breakfast and I have been reading it on and off since.

Oh-oh…in your eyes, and every other person of an ultra- conservative nature, that’s condemned that newspaper. But still, a fine newspaper.

I watched the coverage of Obama’s visit to Israel, West Bank & now Jordan on Al Jazeera English. Very good coverage of the entire visit. His speeches were all televised live.

‘“Haaretz describes itself as broadly liberal on domestic issues and international affairs. "

Yeah, I agree with that self-description.

’Others describe it alternatively as liberal, centre-left, left-wing, or even hard left.

Hard left? Hardly. Centre-left, for sure.

‘David Remnick in The New Yorker described Haaretz as “easily the most liberal newspaper in Israel”, its ideology as left-wing and its temper as “insistently oppositional.”

Excellent, the 4th estate doing its work.

’US weekly, The Nation, describes Haaretz as “Israel’s liberal beacon”, citing its editorials voicing opposition to the occupation, the security barrier, discriminatory treatment of Arab citizens, and the mindset that led to the Second Lebanon War.‘

And these are noble positions to hold, and importantly, for many Israelis to hold.Whilst in Israel, I met many Israelis who held these same views which is one of the reasons I remain somewhat optimistic there is a vocal minority who hopefully will come to fore one day.

’Andrea Levin, executive director of the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting (CAMERA)‘ “CAMERA is known for its pro-Israel media monitoring and advocacy”

This same organisation, a “Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting”, was noted in ’CAMERA campaign in Wikipedia’My quote from wiki entry: ‘Five editors involved in the campaign were sanctioned by Wikipedia administrators, who wrote that Wikipedia’s open nature “is fundamentally incompatible with the creation of a private group to surreptitiously coordinate editing”.‘

Back to Ansonia’s quotes: ‘In March 2010, The Jerusalem Post reported that a pollster was unhappy with the way his poll results regarding Israeli views regarding President Obama were presented in the English edition of Haaretz, which he felt was ’misleading’, due to the fact that the Hebrew word ‘inyani’ had been interpreted as ‘fair’ instead of ‘businesslike’.’

The Jerusalem Post “While it was once regarded as left-wing, the paper underwent a noticeable shift to the right in the late 1980s.”“Left-wing and right-wing columns are often featured on the editorial pages. It espouses economic positions close to those of libertarianism: tight fiscal control on public spending, curbing of welfare, cutting taxes, and anti-union monopoly legislation, among others.”[citation needed]“”The paper competes with Haaretz newspaper"

    And your point was…?

Republicans have no credibility in foreign affairs. None. Their incompetency is historic fact. They need to stick to banning condoms, or whatever it is they’re supposedly for.

They weren’t citizen’s of other Arab countries. They were subjects of the Ottoman Empire. The following current countries were all part of the Ottoman Empire:SyriaJordanIraqEgyptSaudi ArabiaOne could describe Palestinian as a default identity. They are Arabs, but Arabs can be broken down to other nationalities and tribes. Those who call themselves Palestinians know what they are not. They know they are not Egyptian, Syrian, Bedouin, or Hashemite – even though a Hashemite King rules Jordan. Jordan used to be part of the Palestine Mandate until the British gave it as a gift to one of the sons of the Hashemite Sharif of Mecca for his support during WW I. The “Palestinians” know they have been living there for hundreds of years. Visit a “Palestinian” family; they will proudly show you the deeds to the homes their ancestors owned in places like Jaffa, Haifa, Ashkelon. Yitzhak Rabin admitted that he personally took part in removing more than 50,000 “Palestinians” from what is now Israel. Entire “Palestinian” villages were wiped out. Here is a list of “Palestinian” villages that were “depopulated” during 1948:-http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arab_towns_and_villages_depopulated_during_the_1948_Palestinian_exodus#section_1-One last thing, “Palestinians” are human beings, unless you think that was something invented in the 20th century.

I suppose the Palestinians figured he was just paying lip-service to the whole peace process. As do the Israelis.Have you seen the spoof- video of the impression a couple of Palestinian(?) rap musicians had of Obama’s West Bank visit? I caught a fleeting glimpse of it on TV as I switched it off but haven’t found it on-line. I thought they had said it had gone “viral”.

One of the big lies is that Arafat turned down a peace deal. First, let me say I am not a fan of Arafat. He was corrupt, inept, self-serving megalomaniac. But the story that is generally accepted about the Camp David talks of 2000 is untrue. There was great progress made at the talks but no final deal was agreed to. What the Palestinians and Israelis did agree to was to continue talking.Talks resumed in an Egyptian town in the Sinai called Taba. The talks were adjourned on January 27 because of upcoming Israeli elections. The incumbent Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak was defeated by the Likud Party and its leader Ariel Sharon. Sharon chose not continue the negotiations and the new US President, George W. Bush, supported Sharon in that decision.-http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taba_summit#section_5

In 1948 Swedish diplomat Folke Bernadotte was assassinated by members of the right-wing Jewish organization Irgun. Bernadotte was not an enemy of Israel. He was there to serve as a peace negotiator. Irgun did not want the Israeli government to accept his proposal. One of the planners of the attack was Yitzhak Shamir, future Prime Minister of Israel. One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.-http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folke_Bernadotte

I guess the extremists in Israel beat Arafat to the punch by ending the negotiations.

Well, we know what the Israeli extremists did to Yitzhak Rabin when he tried to pursue peace.

“but the Palestinians have corrupted the hundreds of billions they have received”

See, with obvious falsehoods like this, you tend to lose credibility. Hareetz just 4 days ago published an article that stated that the U.S. gave Israel US$233.7 billion since 1948 (adjusted for inflation; I believe the nominal figure may be 115 billion), while it has given Palestinians approx. US$4 billion since 1993.

If you then suggest the Palestinians have received “hundreds of billions” from other donors, please provide a source for your “hundreds”.

According to some officers in the IDF, the Vatican is also a terrorist organization:-http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/vatican-teaching-hezbollah-how-to-kill-jews-says-pamphlet-for-idf-troops-1.280219

    disingenuously asks: "“Oh-oh…in your eyes”

Where in my post did I give my opinion?"Pfft.

The 4th estate does its work best when it is impartial; but the overwhelming majority of newspapers everywhere are partisan. If a newspaper holds politicians, and others at large, to account and does so with justification, professionalism & the truth, then left or right, meh, does it matter? I read the U.K.‘s Daily Telegraph, Independent & Guardian. They are great papers.

I don’t “attack” Fox news because it is right-wing, I hold it in contempt because it is Faux news.
