Wouldn’t Joe have found out at Confirmation?

For many protestant denominations “confirmation” is preparing to become a full member of the congregation and not a sacrament as in the Catholic church (forgive my assumption from the C )

A godparent is named at the christening and is expected to care for the child should anything happen. Beyond that it’s up to the adults. Of course, I can only speak for what I’ve studied

In the Catholic church, at Confirmation, you have a sponsor, which is not necessarily the same person as your God parent.

Does it really have to be a Confirmation? Maybe it was convenient

Since Crunchy was originally the partner of Joe’s father it would make sense for him to be the Godfather, but there are other possibilities.
