Morning VB and all. I expect Tracy to be correct. This Jumbler storyline is moving right along. They will have him cornered well before four weeks from now. Still curious as to who gets little Crypto.

In fact, for the sake of comic-strip time, Jumbler will become bumbler within the week—unless we spin off into a diversionary sub-arc for a while….

btw stagger, the only jumbled word i was able to figure out was the first one, i didnt need the rest of them.. the pic and the clue was more than enough

Good morning everyone. Here’s the rare first draft of panel one; “Gentlemen, hand over the next four weeks of Jumble puzzles or I’ll be forced to attack you with my ALL POWERFUL index finger!” LOL!!! S.I.T.O.A.N.M.I.

Although I can’t remember what it is, there’s a story to the word “actress.” I think it was used as a derogatory term, but, as I said, I don’t recall the story. It’s one of those things that just caught on, like “OK.” But, the real word is, indeed, “actor.” Would you call a female plumber a “plumbess”? Well……maybe someone here would, I guess.

People (men and women) within show business refer to themselves as “actors.” However, the terms actor/actress is used interchangeably for women and I don’t think I know any women who object to the term actress. The Oscars have the category “Best Actress.”

Many professions add the “ess” suffix to distinguish between male and female practitioners of a profession: waiter/waitress, steward/stewardess, governor/governess, etc. Some people more PC than I object to this sexual identification but it is still common in modern language.

On planes, I mean. I don’t know if there is a new, hip, with-it term for female ship stewards.

Two items:Question: What is “S.I.T.O.A.N.M.I.”?Second, by the comments I have seen recently, it appears that the Jumble team is having more fun with Dick Tracy than we are with the Jumbler.Remember the Jumbler? Oh, yes – there’s a story in Dict Tracy about the Jumbler…With apologies to Arlo Guthrie and Alice’s Restaurant…

“tsull2121, may I make a comment? As a non-regular poster these days I find you to be extremely intelligent and informative. I wonder if the current climate on this board might suggest a softer tone from you, especially with your comments to avenger09. We’ve seen the disappearance of a few regulars the past month so perhaps a less combative approach might be wise. Just a thought.
