Fred probably got his blue ribbon at a fun dog show. He didn’t get it for Best in Show. A blue ribbon is for first in a class. Fred could have been the only entry in his class. Next he would have to compete against the other class winners for Winners Dog to get a purple ribbon. Then he would compete against Winners Bitch and champions of record to get Best of Breed. Next he would have to compete in his group (the hound group) and win that group before he could compete against the other 6 group winners for a chance to be Best in Show. A Best in Show ribbon is red, white and blue.

As was said in the 60’s/70’s “IF you got it, flaunt it.”
