Gods I hope so. I’m not looking for the media to eviscerate him for no reason, but them giving him a pass or accepting his scraps is not acceptable. Media’s original mandate was to watch Government to make sure they don’t become too powerful. Whoops. Screwed that one up.
Yeah, that’s it, the economy was doing just great right up until Obama got elected, and ever since then it’s been downhill. I’m so glad Ramirez reminded us of the true historical record. Otherwise I might have thought that the economy tanked under Bush but has been making a slow but steady recovery since Obama was elected. Silly me.
In Feb of 2009, the unemployment rate was 8.3—it grew over the next year and hit 9.9 in April of 2010; it’s now at 7.7.
In November of 2008 there were 803,000 jobs lost; in the last three months, on average, there were 195,000 jobs created.
In October 9 of 2007, the Dow Jones hit a high of 14,164.53; on March 6 of 2009, it hit a low of 6,443.27; today the Dow Jones is at 14,436.70
I could also talk about mortgages, but I hope you get the point. The big problem remains the number of people in the workforce; that’s flat, but if the trend of the recession had continued we’d be in much bigger trouble now.
For Mikey and the rest of Rush’s trolls, here are some facts on the recovery. The Dow is at an all-time high of 14,470. Well, how about unemployment, you snarkily ask? Well, that dropped from 7.9% to 7.7%. The trolls respond “That’s because the people have run out of unemployment benefits, Right??” Sorry, wrong again. 236,000 jobs were added in February.Go back under the bridge, little trolls.
It isn’t Pres. Obama that’s killing the economy but corporations sending US jobs overseas. I worked for a telecom over 30 yrs that has sent my former job over to the Phillipines. Unless we demand that our jobs be brought back we can continue to see high unemployment regardless of who’s President or elected to Congress.
LOL at your post.Long on noise, but lacks any substantiation, substance or sanity. I think our country will almost always be able to turn the corner, it’s just a matter of how painful it will be. I’ve frequently compared the US Economy to a patient, and have made the analogy of the gangrenous foot. Right now, we have a number of problems that are hurting the patient. We either take the pain and amputate the foot, or we watch it spread until it risks the life of the patient. The turning point, imho, is when 51% of the population is reliant on the government for subsistence. When that happens, we will only “elect” representatives that will continue to take from those who have/create, and give to those who do not. And that will be the end of our republic. We are not there yet, but we are close.@ I Play: You make a good point about consumer spending. People call that behavior “animal spirits.” IMHO, there are people on both sides of the aisle that are dicking the dog. Both parties need to stop vilifying the other side and start working towards a solution. Sadly, this was blatantly obvious when the President took a tour trying to yell and scream about evil the Republicans were because it was “their” sequestration that was going to kick in. If he was serious, he would have stayed in Washington to help get this crap figured out.As to the minimum wage, most people don’t realize that the minimum wage is only received by about 2% of the workforce. And of that 2%, most are teens who have no life obligations. The minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage. And when I first started working, the minimum wage was much lower than today, in the 90’s, and my family didn’t have issues buying cars or replacing broken appliances. It’s because my parents didn’t make minimum wage; they earned much higher. Why? Because their skillset demanded higher wages. As to the repatriation taxation, you’re right. Many have agreements with the US. However, imagine if there was no repatriation taxation at all. Or it was a nominal charge (Of, say 5%). Part of it is revolving around the perception of those taxes, or having to pay huge legal teams to navigate that BS tax code. IMHO, the entire tax code should be able to fit on a single side of an 8-1/2 × 11 piece of paper. More than that and it’s too complicated.
Ramirez, you shouldn’t lie like that, you know very well that the economy is doing better. Obama is pulling us out of a recession despite not getting support from the Republicans.

How can I import graphics into posts? I’ve got a good graph of the number of people in the workforce, but I can’t figure out how to import it.

This is a not very clever, unfunny, low on wit, cheap shot, lazy piece of work.
