The sequester IS the shotgun. The dog is the sensible citizen pointing at a way to cut spending intelligently and specifically. Sadly, Mr. Obama is wielding the shotgun given him by Reid and Boehnor and is going to shoot the dog and the bear with the same shell. And according to the reports I’ve read, the shell he’s using is birdshot compared to the slugs necessary to really address the financial situation with which we deal. It is a good example of how politicians attack the messenger, in this case the dog pointing at the problem, instead of addressing the problem itself. In that context, there is a Capital dome FILLED with armed lunatics ready to shoot regulators, auditor, accountants, and efficiency experts rather than use the skills of those experts to end waste, fraud, and abuse. We have many good bird dogs, but the people who have the power have no honor, or, shame.Respectfully,C.

@Respectful Troll – The problem with your theory is that the American Voting body is rational and homogeneous group that can all agree on what to cut. If you ask them if they think spending cuts are appropriate they will say yes. But then ask them “What should we cut?”

Then you hear everyone come out of the woodwork to protect their favorite program: Medicaid, Medicare, Military, SS, SSDI, Parks, FBI, …. They all have voting constiuencies.

The only way we can cut anything is to do it as an across the board cut. And, in all honesty, I don’t see a problem with that. Instead of making Politiicians choose which group to alienate you make sure everyone feels the pinch equally.

Honestly, I think this is a crank that Congress could turn repeatedly to ratchet down government spending until they get to a more modest level.

Military won’t get as many carrier groups, Government dependents (Medicare, Medicaid, SS, SSDI) will not see as big an increase year to year, They won’t be able to build bridges to nowhere but they won’t be without funds to maintain roads, maybe they won’t have so many TSA agents to frisk granny so they become more selective about how many people they search.

Faced with the same limited resources as a normal American family the Government will have to learn to do the same job with less OR they will start deciding not to do certain things.

Maybe we don’t frisk every 5th person at the airport. Maybe we don’t incarcerate every joint smoker for 5 years. Maybe we don’t invade every country that doesn’t have a majority population worshiping the Christian god. Maybe we close some bases. Maybe we raise the eligibility age for Social Security. Do you see a pattern forming here? The government does all these things today because somebody thought it was a good idea as long as it got paid for by somebody else.

THIS THIS A MILLION TIMES THIS.-A good economy comes from capitol circulating its way through the lower and middle classes, and eventually winding up in corporate coffers. The more the capitol has time to flow, the more good it does.

The Dow set a record all -time high today, and housing prices are back up 10% and real estate is moving (even though banks are still hanging on to a lot of what TARP gave them to play with ), and yet Boehner and McConnell still insist any tax increases on the wealthiest Americans are off the table. ANd yes, Boehner, as usual, was blatantly lying when he said Obama got the tax increases he (Obama) demanded.

An additional 4% on “earnings”, and taxing dividend income above 8% (What Romney really paid on his dividend income) where folks do NOT pay the 17% “max” folks think is paid, will NOT “break” anyone, or come close to the “confiscatory” rates of 93% we saw under that Commie/Socialist/ thief and persecutor and destroyer of growth in chief: Dwight David Eisenhower.

Hello Mechanic, If you check some of the other cartoons for today and yesterday where I’ve posted, you’ll see an idea aimed at the reluctant job creators in our nation. We have been told for several years that the job creators are just waiting for the right ‘environment’ in which to create jobs. Since posting those other comments two stories have come to my attention. Today, the stock market broke its record and has exceeded the losses of 2008, and, there are 16% more billionaires in the world than there was last year. Not sure how many of them are Americans or have investments in America. It’s time for the money to be spread around. The idea is for job creators to decide where their tax dollars over X will be applied. If they do not use their money to create jobs, to improve infrastructure in their community/state/nation, or otherwise do what we’ve been told by the GOP these job creators WANT to do but don’t feel it’s the right time, then we tax them an extra 20% or more. But even then, their ‘extra’ tax dollars can go to a list of programs the gov’t NEEDS and which these individuals can be certain the money won’t be wasted by incompetent legislators. I agree with those who have stated that temporary spending can create long term employment and careers. I saw a cartoon years ago where the man is at the IRS office and telling the agent he wants to know where and how his money will be used. Since politicians are proving to be incompetent with the public’s funds, perhaps it’s time for the public to take matters into their own hands, especially if they have enormous wealth.Thank you for your very kind words. It is my hope more of our fellow writers on GC will come up with ideas instead of just downplaying ideas. I’m not a smart person, but I know a lot of smart people, and I read the writings of smart people. It is a really fun game…“What would you do IF…?”Wanna play? ;)Respectfully,C.

The deficit has already been cut by half. It’s way past time to start stimulating the economy. The sequester is the opposite of what all economists say we should be do doing. Why is the GOP shooting America in the face?
