Another bipartisan effort to solve real specific problems with nonspecific and nontargeted cuts. None of these ‘leaders’ have the courage to assign auditors, accountants, and efficiency experts to crunch the numbers, assess risk, and/or make recommendations that would prosecute fraud, eliminate waste, and end abuses.Gov’t has been “closed” for productive business for over 12 years now, and the parties have divided our nation with social issues and weakened the nation with cannibalistic behaviors. Geo. Washington would not be happy his warning came true.Respectfully,C.

The USPS could continue to deliver on Saturdays if the congress allowed them to function as a business. But there’s no reason it should be profitable, any more than transportation or defense. Funny how Ima doesn’t appear to think that capitalists are “out for themselves…” You should study capitalism some time, it’s an interesting topic.

Maybe they will turn out the non-violent drug offenders. Prisons are a big cost item, federal, state, local!

@ Ransom – I have looked in the mirror, and by writing and talking to people I meet, try to get people to vote for better candidates. The problem is finding a way to get the better candidate to run. I’m thinking TV shows called, “So You Think You Can Lead”; “America’s Got Leaders”; or “The Leaders”. If done right, I’d watch and vote.@ Ansonia – You are right as far as you go. Boehnor wants Obama and the Dems to take the blame for anger cuts will create. Obama wants the blame to be shared. Both are cowards, as are the other party leaders, and all are failing a nation, and dividing a people.Thank you both for you thoughts and tone.Respectfully,C.

Always good to consider these things with you Howie. When I saw Ansonia’s reply to my reply, I realized my failure to fully express myself. Boehnor is hoping that if Obama unilaterally presents the cuts needed to meet the need, the Dems will suffer the consequences in 2014. After Boehnor’s negotiations in 2011 where he said “I got 98% of what I wanted, I’m happy.”, Boehnor lost what trust Obama wanted to have for him. The results of the elections have also given Mr. Obama a false sense of empowerment. Both men are acting like middle school divas.^You are completely right, Obama is not accepting responsibility for his part in this stupid, overbroad attack on debt, however- neither is the GOP. And the media loyalists for both sides just make matters worse in their attacks on the “opposition.” Neither side is going to come out with specifics. They have to work together and come out of negotiations with a plan for which both will be able to take credit, while blaming the other side with equal vigor. It’s a helluva way to run a gov’t. At least folks like us can talk like adults, Howie.Perhaps we can set them a good example? Take care neighbor, you too Ansonia.Respectfully,C.
