“Cut some stupid programs, cut the fat”Yes! And cut Social Security, and cut the COLA, and cut Medicare. 40% of the federal budget right there. I’m tired of paying taxes for non-productive, free-loading, retired seniors.

The federal government spends 15 times more money on Social Security and Medicare than it does on Food Stamps (SNAP).

There is one comparison between cats and legislators that applies. Cats are egotistical, self centered, and when they reach out to others, it is usually in hopes of being fed, petted, or otherwise ‘appreciated’. There are cats that are empathic to owners and will actually leave a preferred spot to ‘comfort’ an owner/friend who is feeling down, but my experience has shown these caring cats to be rare. The only thing more rare, at this time, is a caring politician.Respectfully,C.

LET ME REPEAT: Gov’t spending is lower than last 60 years. Google it—I know it’s a pain, cause it’s the truth. Nowhere to hide!!!

Yeah, those free-loading, retired seniorswho paid into that fund with their taxes all through their entire working lives. We should just put them on an ice floe and send them out to sea. Bye, Grandma, Bye, Grandpa………..!

You’re replying to Ms. Ima’s comment:

“Reagan had no problem herding a majority of dems for 8 years. But he was a leader unlike O.”***********************************************************But there was a difference: the dems Reagan was heading were intelligent, sane, and actually wanted to do good for the country.

Yeah. We understand. Taxes are lower than they been in at least eighty years, our infrastructure is falling apart and all you can worry about is gutting the country for another nickel. We understand perfectly.

wmconelly said Federal Spending as a portion of GDP has been decreasing & that is true. Medicare is the single biggest driver of future spending increases. That, along with the fact that revenues are at a 50 year low are the primary drivers of the deficit. The safety net programs you complain about are being cut back by the sequester, so you shouldn’t have anything to complain about.GDP shrank by 40% during the Hoover years, then recovered dramatically under the New Deal, though it still was less than GDP in 1928. I suppose Obama could have stood by while the economy cratered like a sinkhole under the nation, then taken credit for a “dramatic” recovery. As it stands, GDP has risen to exceed pre-recession levels. In 1936, Congress decided that spending needed to be reigned in & the money supply tightened in order to prevent inflation. That’s exactly the demands of the current GOP. Results are predictable.

One of the mild culture shocks when we lived in Canada was that taxes were 20% higher, and we got 50% more for them.

I keep hearing no NEW taxes! What we need to do is go back to the tax rates in the Eisenhower or Reagan era. Then we had the funds too build the Interstate system and support a strong economy. Oh yes, the rates on the super rich approached 90%. Try them apples, Tea Pasrt5y, and see how far you get with you big business supporters.

From the tone of most of his posts, he was either, (a) being sarcastic ALL of the time, or (b) not being sarcastic. At this time, and knowing how some posters seem to feel about social security and the elderly, I choose (b).

Tea party is a joke. I wish people would think forward rather then backwards (GOP and heavy right wing). If we want to save the USA.. you got to increase taxes and cut spending. If you just keep cutting and droping taxes.. the issue never goes away. The controlling factor is called inflation. We can’t stop this. Also, bring back production.. that is a BIG factor. Looks across the globe at other countries. We are a service economy and with every service economy you have large amounts of low paying jobs, unemployment.

The problem is also the American, we are greedy, lazy (won’t work low paying jobs unless forced to..aka production jobs usually fall into this), and we have a deranged thought that the wants are the NEEDS and we are not willing to work for it.

Thats what what made the USA strong economically early on is that we were willing to WORK HARD for what we had and willing to wait to have what we want and ensure we got our needs. Not so anymore.
