This does reflect an interesting trend in our perception of a safe society. Women applying for CCW,firearms training and purchasing handguns has increased significantly in recent years. I have trained many women in past years, especially with pistols for concealed carry. IMO they are better students because they don’t have any testosterone interfering with their concentration on proper technique and safe handling. Aside from that women have great hand to eye co-ordination and many were great “instinctive” shooters. This article isn’t a national statistic but it does have many relevant issues.

Let’s hope she doesn’t die in a domestic murder-suicide, because that’s a lot more likely than her needing to defend herself against a stranger.http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/10/gun-toting_soccer_mom_is_shot.html

Female gun ownership is up 77% since 2005. Guns put women on equal footing with, or at an advantage over, any attacker.

I think one of the firearms manufacturers should come out with a “Joe B” version of a shotgun. It should be double barrel with the barrel ends flared for a loud report. I believe in times past they called them a “Blunderbuss.”

I like a Colt Peacemaker. Stylish…classic design…a little bulky, but much more intimidating than a 22 Beretta.^In the long run, my objection is not so much to people carrying/owning guns, but for UNTRAINED and unregulated people carrying/owning guns. Since I have no fear of the police or military obeying the orders of a political leadership to take away any of the guns I own, or those I’d like to buy, I have no fear of registering my weapons as I do my car, or even my dog. Even my computer is ‘registered’ if the police had reason to track down my IP address or other numbers. But there are people who should not be allowed to carry/own guns, and just as a license plate can be used to track down a criminal, the markings of a bullet should be available to track down a person who used their gun illegally. If you are going to carry a gun, you should have to be able to show you are legally allowed to carry that weapon and that you know how to use it responsibly. Should carrying while drunk be as illegal as driving while drunk? Maybe.^A recent news story is complicating this debate as a group has used a “3D Printer” to create ‘the lower receiver’, the most heavily regulated portion of the weapon. The other parts are not as regulated apparently.^http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2012/12/03/heres-what-it-looks-like-to-fire-a-partly-3d-printed-gun-video/^It is not a simple debate in its entirety, but 100% background checks for all purchases and requiring all weapons owned be registered (and reported if stolen or sold) gives police a very strong tool to keep weapons out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them. Giving the ATF a full time director is also overdue.Respectfully,C.

Mr. Cheney is back in the news, Howie. Showtime is doing a special on him this month. The clip I saw was…enlightening. I may have to visit one of my friends with showtime and watch it. I’m glad I didn’t have to make the kinds of decisions that administration made, or that this one is making. take care, neighbor.Respectfully,C.

We were talking about public figures & their guns. I’ll be glad to see you making the same gripe the next time someone brings up Jimmy Carter for no reason.
