Calvin sounds like any number of Political Action Groups.Or , considering the original date of publication, those PAGs are trying to sound like Calvin.
This is why I wasn’t a fan of C&H the first time around. Calvin is too much of an unrealistically self-absorbed brat. But I do enjoy Watterson’s artistic talent, especially on some of his Sunday strips.
I think you called it. Mine started mouthing social engineering platitudes the first time she was allowed to play with the neighbourhood kids at about age three. And the worst thing about that stuff is that it tends to stick tighter than anything Mom says.
I think Calvin’s parents are great. Most parents don’t seem to have any useful response to this stuff, they just go along with it.
Back in the 60’s, once a week i had to line a miniture outdoor garbage can that was under the kitchen sink with newspaper,(didn’t have plastic liners back then) after empting out it’s contents to it’s big brother at the end of the driveway.. Summers were brutal..

Calvin, you are being EMPOWERED!!! YOU can control your destiny. Now take out the trash, then say “Mom, thanks for letting me help. I Love You.”

If we had ever talked like this to our parents, we’d do more than take the trash out.

You would put a couple of layers of newspaper on the bottom of the bag to help it hold up
