At least Earl in the final panel didn’t address Opal as “Sir.”

Clean the house? Is it that time of year already?

I’ve never understood why some women (definitely not me) insist on a spotless house. There are so many more interesting things to do.

I do believe Earl got it right in the second panel.

That looks like an old tube tv, Earl deserves a big flat screen tv to watch Matlock on.

Why should she do everything? If he lives there he ought to help out.

People like Opal create a ridiculously high standard, not only unnecessary, but usually not beneficial and sometimes harmful. Then they deman that others do the work with them to try to reach that standard. If they reach it, the control freak raises it higher.@PhoebeDog & @lightenup have the idea: each do the work to reach the standard that suits you, unless you have fairly agreed on a standard in advance.

Well, it seems there are MANY levels of punning involved in just a few comics panels. Lots to chuckle about. As well as all the implied relationship dis-joints in a humorous “pecking order.” Very clever of Brian Crane.
