when my son was 6 he had a party and as soon as all his little friends got there and the presents were on a table, he got mad because they were going to stay and play, he wanted them to just bring a present and go home…..thank goodness he grew out of that.
The only birthday party I ever had as a child was when I was only 2. This is before Mom married the Monster who thought birthday parties for children is a waste of time except for his daughter, “The Princess.”
At the age of 9, you’d think Michael would finally be getting old enough to at least begin to understand this concept but when you believe the world completely revolves around you and your constant need and desire for instant gratification . . . then I guess not!!!!! :-(
My parents MUST have been in touch with Lynn! At my birthday parties, they made me stand at the door and take the coat of each guest as I greeted them. While I did so, either my mom, dad or some other relative also offered to help by taking the gift off their hands. Of course, they had another way to rectify any attitude of my siblings or myself, reading us the riot act in private, with my dad decking me should the offense have merited it! :P
I remember walking in the door at my grand-nieces 2nd birthday party with my big gift-wrapped box. She walked up, held out her hands and said “Thank you.” I figured it was better than saying “Gimme.”
