“I don’t understand why we don’t show that country what a real nuke looks like! Up close! And about 50 times!”Um….. because the vast majority of the casualties would be innocent civilians who are already suffering, the few allies we have left would probably start seeing us as nonredeemable monsters, and it would further encourage our growing list of enemies to create/obtain nukes to use against us????

There’s a reason why “Mutually Assured Destruction” carries the acronym it does.

Seriously? Your suggestion would seem to suggest you have no idea what happens in the aftermath of a nuclear weapon detonation. Now, if you were suggesting this as an example of hyperbole, that would be different. There are other more appropriate things that could be done, from a purely weapons use standpoint, to get the message across. Precision strike against their missile launch sight, precision strike against their nuclear production facilities are a couple examples. But you need to take into consideration they are an ally of China, and as such China may very well come to their defense.I see N Korea as one of the school yard bullies, low on self esteem and good a bloviating.Treat them with caution but keep them at arms distance.

A precision non-nuclear strike might be necessary. And China would probably applaud, even as they denounce. This is one country you do not want to have the bomb, not just because they might be crazy enough to use it, but because they might not have the technology to prevent accidents that could poison the area.

Israel helped South Africa with their nuclear program (weapons) and now S.A. doesn’t have, or want any. The knowledge of how to build a bomb is pretty common, getting the hardware down right, remains the hard part, like getting enough fissionable material. But yes, sadly, between the nuclear powers, US, Russia, France, Israel, China, there’s more than enough to wipe life off the planet. Lil’ Kim’s underground tests haven’t indicated a “weapons ready” bomb yet that could be delivered anywhere, and yes remember, there has been no armistice with the North, only a cease fire, so maybe that’s our “longest war” that of course, wasn’t a “war”.
