When the USPS says it wants to raise rates to cover costs, or to add new express delivery options, congress says “you can’t compete with the private sector!!” Then they turn around and say “how come you’re not competitive?” There’s no moral reason the USPS should have to show a profit. The Department of Defense never does, the Department of Homeland Security never does, the CIA never does. The postal service is guaranteed by the constitution. It should be adequately funded, or allowed to compete in a free market place. You can’t deny it both options.
I agree with you on the (eventual) further reduction of mail delivery days. Very little important mail is sent by 1st class these days. Sooner or later everyone will be getting e-bills. Time sensitive stuff goes by Next Day, whether it’s USPS, UPS or FedEx.The USPS is legally required to deliver to addresses in the boondocks that the others won’t bother with because it’s unprofitable. Unless you want to sign off on laws requiring the private competitors to provide the same service, we need to make sure the Post Office stays afloat.

Even mailmen are losing their jobs under Barry.

The bill was passed in 2006. Who was the majority in Congress and who was president?

Same rules for FedEx, UPS and other common carriers? Or just USPS?
