Now, making my way down the deserted street… back to the salon…no one about, a few night-owl toons were the only ones drinking at the Tiki at this hour….

I, too, feel a vague stirring of… is it potential? Is Evan right?Or is it only the wind?

Perhaps I’ll know in the morning…but you’re right…. probably I’ll forget, and just sleep late, drink coffee and eat some apple pie.

Stop by the salon tomorrow afternoon, anybody who’d like to join me.I just baked again….

You should have seen Elvis on my long journey here, piled with pies, stuffed with more pies…

That’s why I walked to the Tiki…. I let him sleep….the deep sleep of an exhausted car…or is it a tired puppy?

Stel, love that kitty! So cute! I have learned to try to remember to look before sitting. One evening in the semi-dark, I sat on one of our chairs, and there was my little black Molly Girl. Thank goodness I didn’t hurt her!

NOW he should go forth with his new found feelings.AND bat cleanup. Rangers could use some ball players.Had a wonderful trip Friday into today. Went wayyyyyyy out west to some of my old patrolling areas. Had to go to the Tallest Mountain in Texas located in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. El Capitan DPS station. One Trooper based there. He had some equipment for that needed to be brought back to here in Hurst. I remembered it well working areas like that. Was damn glad to get back to my cities and stuff. It was 50 miles just to get to a local store to buy groceries. Carlsbad NM is closest. But I will say the view is beyond belief. I do miss that. Traveled in two days nearly 1100 miles AND STAYED IN TEXAS.

Dry, Linda Dean, anybody looking for whole pies…of course there is peach, and shoo-fly…apple, cherry, blueberry, boysenberry….custard, lemon meringue (with Meyer lemons from a neighbor’s tree)…banana cream (I mean, could I NOT make banana cream? I don’t want to see a grown monkey cry!)Chocolate cream… a few of my own specialties…. pear or cherry with sour cream, black bottom, brownie cheesecake…

Wow, can’t even remember what else…

Sorry no pumpkin, pecan, or key lime just cos I don’t like ‘em…(though I’ll do them with a special request and bribery.)

    When I bake, I don’t mess around!

Stel…. I make him a few special little turnovers with hamburger, carrots and STP…. he loves ‘em, and then he’s very good about not begging for the sweets.

I’m sure you know he’s very well trained anyway… otherwise he couldn’t be an automatic,I don’t like using a stick on a dog car.

Red… I’ve been waiting for someone to notice!

Elvis was a full grown rescue dog car when Stel got him….we don’t know everything about him…but he does have some Land Rover parts.

:Because he has a natural tendency to want to stop at every mailbox (sorry about any leakage, those of you who have noticed some) I think he may have been bred and trained to be a right-hand-drive delivery car.

It’s a bit harder on the freeway… but he’s very obedient, and does remember to stay to the right.

Oh…. and Veteran…California is about 800 miles top to bottom (or, strangely enough, vice versa… LOL.)

Two drivers trading off (or one dangerously sleep deprived person) can do one way in about 15 hours on Highway 5, but the more interesting coastal or other scenic routes take far longer.

I’ve never done it all it one trip but always sorta wanted to.

WTF is going on? I did a little rearranging of my favorite toons and now the “view” I get is totally changed (wanting me to make links that are annoying and intrusive). I sent GC a message but do not expect an answer before Monday at earliest :-((( If anyone can help me go back to my “page” I’d appreciate! I may cross post this.

bev, as for your request for a photo of my new place here, I’m afraid I never mastered the art of posting pics in comments. Too complicated for this most nontechnical mind. And now I think I will retire to my snug little bedroom under a thatched roof. I love the way the moonlight comes through the latticed panes and the bare branches outside the window.Somewhere, I hear a brook babbling. I wonder where it is?

Well, I unexpectedly had to make a run out to my house in CA….I prefer to stay over in my salon on Saturday nights cos the Sunday street closing and lack of buses makes it hard to get back here.

But now that I can use Elvis … wow…. what a difference it makes….

Glad you guys enjoyed the pies…oh my goodness….ALL the pies?

Well, I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow. But this time I’ll bake them here.Bev.. how about sweet potato pie, for something pumpkin-ish?I do like that.Or if you’re growing any pie pumpkins, I’ll make actual pumpkin pies…. as long as I don’t have to eat more than a sliver.

Actually, I stopped back in cos I meant to say to Dazz…I don’t understand your description of what’s happening to your page…ie what exactly changed, and what do you mean by “wanting me to make links?”

If you can make it clearer maybe I can help…but pages can’t make you do things.

And that reminds me…I also meant to say…Shika… lots of people on this forum can help you learn to post pictures if you want to.

DAZZ, That looks like it’s set up to “print all”. When I try to print something out, like a recipe or something, that is what I get unless I hit “print selection”, but I have no idea why you are getting that. You know,, there is an 800 phone number listed on the home page that you can call if you don’t want to fiddle around with emails. I called during a weekday, though, and I was very pleased with the response.

What the page looks like to me is not a “print all” as Dry said, but when I used to be able to view the “code” in a page, because all the stuff normally on the page is there (even the magnifier) but it is all down a straight line with lots of extra spaces (and every comment is numbered). I hope that tomorrow I can reach someone at GC so that I can “get back to normal”. Bad enough that I am on this very restrictive diet; I don’t NEED this aggravation!

Hi…. got a haircut to do in a few minutes….

And of course…. a LOT more baking….But I had to stop by for a few….

Bev…. can’t do pumpkin filling without a pumpkin! And they’re out of season…. that’s why I asked whether you grow any…. like… maybe in a hothouse out at the farm…. ?I hate to use that tinny-tasting canned pumpkin. In fact maybe that stuff is why I grew up disliking the pie.

My own, made from a real pie pumpkin… not a jack-o-lantern one! — and real whipped cream is actually very nice…. but expensive and time consuming to make. And I still can only eat one small piece. The way my pies get gobbled up on Ballard Street I’d need to spend two days making enough filling.

Dazz…. AFAIK…. That page comes up when the background HTML isn’t working properly.

You’re getting all the fresh content, but the style sheet or something for the whole page isn’t loading right.

Sometimes when that happens it will also say you have to sign in…. even if you’re already signed in.

It’s probably a GoComics problem, not your computer…. BUT…when you don’t shut down often enough, or even close your browser enough, ….every now and then it clings to an old cache and keeps re-loading previous pages with errors that have already been resolved.

I’m no IT person…. but I’ve found, and techs have told me it’s true, that to make a really fresh start, you need to shut down completely.

Not “Restart,” but “Shut Down..”:wait at least a minute or so, then reboot.

I’ve mentioned before in this forum that modern computers are NOT like the ones we had even in the 90’s.

A 486 with Windows 3.2 had about 3,000 to 3500 files on it altogether, including the operating system and all the programs…and perhaps a couple dozen processes running, most of which I recognised to some degree.

A Windows7 or even XP computer may have a million or two files, and a hundred unrecognisable (unless you’re way geekier than me) processes running in the background… plus a hard drive a thousand bigger..

As always, everything is subject to corruption or loading errors…. and more stuff means more errors.

Hibernation overnight was OK on an x86 computer…. but these days you need to shut down at night to make it reload everything the next day and start fresh.
