Ebert & Homer
Well, I appreciate your passion, little Jack Horner, but ever since the Brian Dennehy incident we do thumbs up if we like something on my show
http://wordinfo.info/unit/3735/ip:1/il:K and http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/games/a/thumbsup.htm provide more than you really want to know about gladiators and thumbs.Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down was actually trademarked by Siskel and Ebert (became part of contract dispute between Disney and Ebert) —
I have looked through GOOGLE and still can’t figure out what this comic is talking about and I find it very frustrating. I certainly hope someone lets us know if he or she figures it out.
The articles referred to by Alexi and MgScott are negative reviews from Ebert of Dennehy movies…. but don’t mention any encounter, nor contention, much less “incident”.
I’ve Googled it every way I can think of so far…. but I have no starting point,e.g, what was it called in the press? … I haven’t found anything about Dennehy, Ebert, and an “incident” or confrontation.
I hope Dan is amusing himself…. sigh….I mean, I’m sometimes my only audience too…. but not usually on purpose.
“In the 1992 boxing film Gladiator, Brian Dennehy claims that a punch to the top of the head will do more damage to the fist than the head in a bare-knuckle brawl. In his fight with the hero, he tilts his head forward before several punches so that the hero injures his hands on his skull.
“This one very much IS Truth in Television. While the very top of the head is vulnerable, the frontal bone of the cranium is way tougher than the bones in the hand.”

To get back to the comic, does anyone understand it? Explain.

Usually all we have to figure out is a pun – comics shouldn’t be this confusing! Or maybe it’s just me.

I think that this may be it:
“In the 1992 boxing film Gladiator, Brian Dennehy claims that a punch to the top of the head will do more damage to the fist than the head in a bare-knuckle brawl. In his fight with the hero, he tilts his head forward before several punches so that the hero injures his hands on his skull.
