This may be a response to recent news coverage of a Univ. of Ga. report claiming that cats “murder” 500 million birds a year in the U.S. Somebody in Georgia doesn’t like cats.
What with yesterday’s strip featuring President Lincoln, and his birthday being on Tuesday, I suspected that Johnson would have a theme going for this week. But I didn’t think that cats would be the subject.
It’s feral cats that do the most killing. But even house cats get way more rodents than birds…..Not a bad trade off…BTW, how do birds get caught? Those suckers can fly!
Birds don’t see things after awhile that don’t move. Cats lie in wait. All pet cats should be indoor cats—cats have decimated the songbird populations.
As I have said before, my cat only kills the little brown anoles (that came from Cuba) when they get into the screen room.Cat story:I made a custom cat tree more than a year ago. She didn’t use it much until I put about a half teaspoon of catnip under the carpet on the very top, 3 days ago. Now I know where to find her.

The neighborhood “outside” cat got his butt kicked by 3 squirrels at my feeder. The birds gladly share with squirrels here.

Cats aren’t the only culprits. There is a Scot terrier that we have kept here who kills birds. Snatches them right out of the air.

Which is only one reason you should keep your cats indoors. It is healthier for them as well. Cats don’t need to be outdoors to be happy and healthy.

Indoor cats may be healthy, but anyone who has seen one spend all of his/her waking hours looking out a window knows they long for the outdoors.

If they really kill that many birds we should thank them. We would all be up to our a## in birds if not for them.
