Once Latinos feel R’s are not a threat to friends or family in the country, many will be much more likely to make their votes based on their feelings on abortion, gay marriage, and other social issues. I know many Latinos who are against Obama’s policies, but are much more afraid of what is seen as Repub intolerance of latinos. The cheerful donkey in the cartoon may not be so happy in 2014 or ’16. Respectfully,C.

“Tense is wrong. For males it is “Mi gustO”. Of course, for Democrats, it’s ‘Me cheato.’”And for you, it is “Estoy lleno de odio”

Wrong. “Me gusta” = “It is pleasing to me.”

Also, Dems have been for immigration reform for quite some time (with a very Libertarian approach, too).

The real “tense” as John McCain expressed (odd the righties didn’t notice) is the REPUBLICANS who recognize their decades of insults and obstruction have lost them votes. Interesting it was REAGAN who granted “amnesty” the first time, and caused the “problem” they resent.

Illegal is ILLEGAL, but maybe if the law doesn’t provide for some justice, it should be changed or at least amended?

As a "liberal’ though, even I question the use of “Latino”, “Hispanic”, “African American” and other terms to avoid : Mexican, Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, etc, or the case of Lewis Hamilton the BRITISH Formula One driver, who is, like Obama, mulatto, being called “African American” by newscasters. Just as someone may identify with one of the sub-tribes of Sioux, or tribes from Africa, not nations, maybe the immigration reform also needs to be more specific, as it was when quotas were set many decades ago, and honored?

I welcome immigrants who want to improve this nation, but politics makes strange bedfellows, as the “wet foot/dry foot” that applies only to Cubans, but did NOT protect anyone escaping from RIGHT-WING dictatorships!

Yup, let’s level the playing field. Like, well, make all “Native born Americans” pass the immigration test before being allowed to vote, get a job, drivers license, or social/economic benefits!

Robert Landers, you saw my point, and implications. I took the complete 100 question test by the way, and only missed one. A coworker of my wife just got her citizenship and took “the test”, but was only asked three questions from the test. She immigrated from Belgium some time ago.

The “speak English” is also interesting, as a couple from Boston moved in across from us when we lived in Arizona. The husband was “the boss”! The wife was FIFTH GENERATION born in BOSTON, in the ITALIAN enclave, and spoke not a word of English. I didn’t realize until then there was an Italian “Taliban”, where women were so isolated! Other nationalities have the same setup, of course. Interesting the Vietnamese were among the highest in establishing literacy in English after the “boat people” showed up. (but they too established their neighborhood enclaves rather than “blending in”.

You know, that IS a problem, now isn’t it!

How does one differentiate between democratic meaning the political party, and democratic meaning a free democracy.

The only thing that I can think of for an answer is to make sure you are using the term in the proper contest!

I was in the sign business for 32 years.Just a couple of years after I started we did a sign for a business 100 miles away. The pattern man misspelled “boutique” and the two of us making the sign didn’t catch it. Cost a lot of money.Since then I caught dozens of errors from “Kentuky to pizzaria”

To Dtroutma and Robert Landers, you are the one who show real knowledge of situations. it’s clear that you follow what’s going on and I really appreciate you both. I have struggled with dyslexia, and it’s made me a target for trolls sometimes. often I write down what I think is right, but when that red line appears below the words, I try different spellings until it goes away.

I would favor examining the Driver License records right now and compare it to the list of those that voted in the past election. People that did not vote should be notified that their License will be suspended for 2 years if they do not vote in 2014, unless they can give a good reason for not voting.

Yes, the Democrats are hoping to go over 2/3’s of the Latino vote, while Republicans are only supporting the measure in order to retain their status as the party that helps minorities and the poor.
