Happy Independence Day to all the Americans in the Cathy Clan. For the rest of us, Happy Friday. Where have we gone wrong where so many employers expect you to work on your vacation?

When my little girl was ten, she told me, “Dad, you have to do a lot of boring things so you can do something exciting.”My little girl did a lot of boring things so she was offered to go to the top five public universities in California. Instead, she went to smaller school for Women’s Studies. She has always done her exciting things.In 1999, Michelle Howard is named commander of the Rushmore, becoming the first African-American woman to command a Navy Ship. Now, she is No. 2 as a full admiral in the United States Navy. Someday, she may become the first woman as the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO).My little girl is like her grandfather. He told me, “In America, if you are the best, no matter what your race is, you have a chance to do Acts of Greatness.”

Yup—the ever-classic “vacations” … (notice the quotes). I know the feeling.

Happy 4th to my American friends and happy Friday to all! We’re on the final countdown to “d-day” (i.e. move day on the 17th)… can’t wait for this nightmare to be over!
