Evenin’ all….

    Anybody still up?

Looks like Shika sent her luggage on ahead, but she herself has been delayed.

Wonder if she took the 67 Ballard bus…. cos I had problems LAST week when it got lost….

And now I think Bev went to bed.

    Hey Shikamoo…. I stay up pretty late…

if you get here in the next couple of hours, just go to the Tiki Bar and stay put…I’ll come get you and you can stay in my yurt (it’s very nice) or I’ll give you a ride out to Bev’s.

Didn’t StelBel tell you her hotel is for dogs?SCHAABS… Animal…. um…animal…. no….Stelbel’s Canine Hotel and Antique Browser Store.

It’s a good place to pick up an old MSN Explorer, though…. right, Stel?

Yikes… it looks like Ed is already wearing some sort of cervical collar..Probably the result of leaving those pointy dents on his previous stop-offs.I can tell by his gleeful, eager expression at the thought of stopping again, that, in spite of his headgear….

Ed is actually no rocket scientist.

That’s why I get here so late in the day when I come back.

Okay it’s 6 AM (pst) and my comments keep disappearing. Some of you have mentioned this before but without seeing the comment, it’s hard to debug (yeah, like any invisible sh@t is easy). Pardon me if you know this already but I’ve spent all night on this so I’m going to Rant.

Simply put, GoComics, in their infinite wisdom, no longer allow fancy characters (if it ain’t on your key board you’re SOL).What do I mean “Fancy”? Well characters like Smart Quotes for one, most anything from the Character Map for another. So what happens? Say you copy another commentors post into yours. If it contains an apostrophe, single or double quotes you’ll notice that they are the curly type (’, “, ”). If your post contains any of these symbols then the entire post just disappears (into that alternate verse where things work you think they should). This also happens if write your comment in Word (with Smart Quote enabled) and then copy to the comment box.The same goes characters and symbols copied from the character map.

So now you’re thinking “Hey, I’ll just copy Bev’s comment into Notepad add my 2¢ worth and copy back to GoComics.” Nope, SorryNotepad retains the curly quotes. So you’ve to Find|Replace them first.

And those of you that use Alt+num to insert symbols, that don’t work no more either.

By now those of you that have had their morning coffee/tea/beverage may have noticed that this comment contains some special characters. ¶

I’ve done this by inserting HTML number codes.I type: One quarter ¼ plus one half ½ equals = three quarters ¾You see: One quarter ¼ plus one half ½ equals = three quarters ¾

Not a lot symbols on that page, After I get some sleep I’ll look for more unless someone finds them first (StelBel, Susan?)

X, thank you for educating us at AC and us here at home aka BS on the new strictures. I saw a post disappear 4 times before I got it that my punctuation was the problem. As an English teacher I take exception to it because the commas missing as well as the apostrophes not being availavble for us are annoying me to an astounding level! (there are too many punctuation marks missing in the preceding sentence and its making me totally uncomfortable) Ah well what is proper to an American English Teacher is probably abominable to a British English Teacher etc. etc. etc. ( I want my commas back!!)Who appointed gocomics as arbiters of the english language posting in comments at go comics? There seems to be some redundancy there….just sayin….

and I hope you all enjoy the 7th day tomorrow….bat the world under the sofa…turn on the super bowl – enjoy the commercials and the half time show – while eating all sorts of high carb foods that we all love – all while you try to forget the suicide bombers and the insurgents who choose to anniliate their problems in Pakistan and at US Embassy doors in Turkey and Libya with suicide bombers and use your mind to explore what the world under your sofa is like…that has to be a calming experience when viewed in contrast to what is really happening in the middle east….we cant use commas or apostrophes anymore…it will make your post disappear. that is from an programmer who has tried our basic compurter skills as opposed to his more pc friendly html codes. Its not our skills its that gocomics is cutting us back on our abilities to add to all of our opinions or funnies or pictures or anything that incluces character maps signs (no more musical notes or hearts) As an english teacher for 35 years I miss my dang commas and apostrophes. I have used them all my life and feel that my freedom of speech has been violated because my teacher friends can no longer understand my posts due to my puntuationistic lacking run on sentences….grrrrrrrrrr.our pics may be next to go comma so I will post some that I have been saving for valentines and st paddys day and some that were just funny before I lose my ability to do so.

Dry I appreciate all that you have said my friend. I am dealing with another of OUR friends while I ease my friend into her future. Then on Feb 10 I am going on vacation to Texas. I will be sunning and fishing and visiting with family and enjoying heavenly Tex Mex and meeting little ones, and on the way back from there spending a week with my new grandson. I hope the next few weeks are as good for you as I expect them to be for me. I only wish Eldo could share all of my joy as much as he shared his freedom within his mind. He is an artist and things were exploding for him and encoraging him to reach beyound his own liberal boundaries so he did. Expanded to a level none of us could see for him. But it was him. He wanted to see if we could keep up with him. I could not. And I regret that. It WAS all to make us laugh. I failed him as it made me cry. I dont think I can ever bring him to believe that it was only concern for him that drove me to write what I did.

So I have decided to go to Texas and reconnect to relatives there. I will be gone from Feb 10 thru Feb 22 so dont expect to hear from me, but if able I will definitely say (cant use quotes) Hey there. If our friend is reinstitued with gocomics let him know he would be welcome and that my next trip is going to be to Westminster in California.

This new diet is going to cause a large amount of stress in my life and I hope the new dr (who chiro knows) will be helpful. I am not at all sure I can do the whole diet during visits where I will be cooking for my lover as well (he definately does not need the reversal diet as his BP is obviously funtioning beautifully!) so I would be under more stress when visiting. Skyping may work better (and save my son’s FF miles) until the diet is done in a year.

I actually expect to find that I will benefit more from the exercise and breathing portion of my new routine to lower BP since I noticed that BP was lower during the time I took those 4 vicodin while having the difficulty in upper back and neck this week (it was almost normal and pulse was lower as well).

MORNING BALLARDEERSI’m still here attempting to post. Fenton, I need a massive Red Breast with very little ice ! I’ve been busy hard boiling up 3 dozen eggs for deviled eggs, and making a big pot of Gulf Shrimp Jambalaya for tomorrow night’s Super Bowl party.I don’t know how I get talked into these things. My Saint’s aren’t even playing but you know how it goes with Cajun hospitality… it’s PARTY, PARTY,PARTY !I am going to attempt to give you the recipe for the Jambalaya – You can do your own deviled eggs !

Ingredients2 pounds medium gulf shrimp, peeled and deveined, shells reservedExtra-virgin olive oil1 pound andouille sausage, cut into rounds2 green peppers, seeded and cut into 1/4-inch dice3 ribs celery, cut into 1/4-inch dice1 Spanish onion, cut into 1/4-inch diceKosher saltPinch crushed red pepper3 cloves garlic, smashed and finely chopped1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes1 teaspoon cayenne pepper2 cups long-grain rice2 fresh bay leaves1 bundle fresh thyme5 scallions, whites and greens thinly sliced, for garnishDirectionsFor the shrimp stock: toss the shrimp shells in a large pot and fill with water. Bring the water to a boil, turn off the heat and let sit for at least 15 to 20 minutes, although longer is fine. Strain the shells and discard.

Coat a large, wide pot with olive oil and bring to medium-high heat. Add the andouille and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the sausage starts to brown. Add the peppers, celery, and onion to the pan, season with salt and a pinch crushed red pepper. Cook 7 to 8 minutes or until the mixture has softened and is very aromatic. Toss in the garlic and cook for 2 to 3 more minutes. Add the tomatoes and cayenne. Stir in the rice.

Add 4 cups shrimp stock, bay leaves, and thyme bundle. Season with salt and taste it to make sure you are on the way to something delicious. Cover and cook over medium heat for 25 minutes.

Stir in the shrimp and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes or until the shrimp turn pink. Serve garnished with chopped scallions.

Note: On the above recipe: I season with Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning rather than ordinary salt and pepper and use a touch more cayenne than called for. Never add hot sauce to the jambalaya while cooking. This is a condiment for the table to be used or not by the diner. I generally have several hot sauces to choose from – ranging from mild but tasty to omg !

I love the cottage and all the flowers (although as I did with this house) I’d replace any purple ones with red and orange – I like my flowers to fit my total decor.I hope Red’s not angry with me for quoting the Simson’s song (I heard the whole city was offended by that episode). I was hoping someone here would link to a vocal version (as it is very short) but heaven knows I could never clip from Flash and be able to do any such.

My own garden is rather dismal (I hear we had 5 straight nights of frost during my Chicago trip, so all the typical frost damage is done (ficus trees especially) but no trimming is recommended for another month or so, so I will just look at the parts that ARE pretty – cactii never change and my pine, cypress and some others are uneffected, still bright green and the pool is pristine and blue. When my monthly gardeners show up, I WILL remonstrate about the removal of my grapefruit (causing me to buy citrus for breakfast when I should have free for the picking) and I will allow early pruning of all the lantana (down to the ground, as it is too hardy to be harmed and that will give a head start to more red flowers. Even the yellowbell (not in bloom for a brief bit) could use a drastic pruning. I just wish I could trust them with my rose bushes, but they are totally incapable of anything other than a chainsaw lop.

My skin is so delicate that when I do rose pruning you could swear I had a house of really vicious cats, but I will try to do a decent job of it after they start to green up this spring. The bushes are all very mature (13-14 years) so they have many trunck branches more than an inch in thickness – I need to use saws (not just my normal garden shears).

But I’m not as delicate as Blanche:

Yes, Cheers to all the gang and best wishes to your grandson Linda! My youngest one, Bo will be 10 this June and was born on a Father’s day. My daughter still shares custody with his dad. I’ll wash my hair now and get dressed. Just watched 25 SB ads thanks to Yahoo (one after another with lots of giggles and a tear at the Budweiser champ.

My old Martyrology lists it as July 2 which is primarily Feast of the Visitation; saying simply he was a Bishop of Winchester who performed miracles. I know it is mentioned in a song (sonething about bells of various cathedrals). I’m still getting stuff in order from my trip (since I lost a week) and I am animated by the sun which is lazier than I today (still napping in the clouds). I want to give my middle son a call for his birthday before he’s really busy later (big sports fan).

I insisted in buying into a community with NO stinkin’ regulations! I’d much rather put up with the occaisional jerk who parks ugly sh** out in the street than someone telling me I can’t paint my house whatever lovely shade of pink I DW like!

My house can undeniably be called “pink” but it is well within the shades of natural pink found in local flagstones and it ties in perfectly with my flowers as well as the patio surfaces (natural and painted).

Red, I agree that where ever I live does not define me. I think Phoenix is the best weather ever, but did not step outside today other than laundry as sun did not show itself. I will comb out my hair and see new doctor tomorrow- Hope he has good understanding of the new routine, if not I’ll keep looking! My lover is a true Chicago guy and I love that he was willing to stand up to my X who threatened us with a gun (he brought HIS to my house and the X never showed) Point taken! My lover and I have done target practice together and we are both good at it. Lately my BP seems to be improving because I can think of him without stress. He always gives me what I need, so time and vacations become less important. Skype might become more important ;-D

Thanks, Essex, that’s just not quite the way I roll. My house is no huge palace but it is a whole lot more than that! It is a little 2100SF 2 story with an attached 2 car garage and the lap pool and waterfall out back (even with just my 4 little bedrooms and 3 bathrooms it is quite nice when I straighten everything up. That candyassed pink is not my style- I used a lovely pale coral so that my bright orange door looks good. Here I show the old colors and the new selection.

New house color is just a little more pink, but door is much more orange behind the bronze screen.

My bench was moved temporarily to the walkway during painting, but it lives beneath the bay window so I can read in the shade of that prickley pear (behind the swans and now much bigger).

I got thinking about friend Steve/Eldo and for some reason the words of an old Willie Nelson song Red Headed Stranger came to mind. Especially the chorus:

Don’t cross him, don’t boss him. He’s wild in his sorrow:He’s ridin’ an’ hidin his pain.Don’t fight him, don’t spite him;Just wait till tomorrow,Maybe he’ll ride on again.

Ooh, I like the first one. Can I divert my luggage to the white cottage. I have enough to leave some in the carriage house too.such a pretty cottage. The red one would take my carry on luggage. Maybe.

I’ll retire soon for the night and will see a possible choice for new dr tomorrow. He has to be someone I can talk frankly to, so we’ll see. Friend of my chiro, but often easier to speak frankly to another woman.

Easy there, Ed. Remember the last time you “stopped off” there? Here’s a hint: It’s why you have to wear a neck brace now.
