Tarry, I watched that video this morning, what a beautifully researched and well written essay; while it was kind of strange to have it presented by an animated kitty who sounds like a 12 yrd old girl, I found it both fascinating and insightful! Even as a Canadian, I got a lot out of it, as it used the American annexation of Hawaii as an example of Imperialism and it’s nasty effects, throughout history, the world over.
As for the retention of the Emperor, he was originally—and rightly, I believe—seen as an active partcipant in the Japanese government. Two factors changed our decision to tolerate his continued, deplorable, existence. One, he was a useful tool; with him in our pocket, we could quash any would-be junta that might continue the war. Also, President Truman decided that removing him wasn’t worth sacrificing any American lives.

George added how it’s already been used against the Arab American community. My point is it can be used against you, me, ALL Americans. Good for you Tarry, for looking it up.
New information, I think, that the mysterious metal box was in fact buried under the first barracks (the one in which George’s family was housed). That makes his remembrances a little more pertinent!
If I could be time-warped back to the Potsdam conference and get President Truman’s attention, I would have sided with Admiral Leahy, who opposed making war on women and children and considered the A-bomb barbarous. I would have advised Truman to make the terms of surrender clear and to let them keep their damned Emperor. I mean, why even waste police resources on it even? Also, while it is easy to keep pretending Dick Tracy is the same age, as well as all the others, having George appear an age where he would absolutely have not been born yet during the internments is ridiculous…..they should have had him appear 75 or so which he is…..age isn’t a character deficiency…lets see, I want to fit this into one or two posts today, so also, Mikey, yeah, I always felt they didn’t need to bomb either myself…..a barren area would have proved the point.
Also, where exactly was George able to legally wed Brad and have him as his “husband”? And how is this integral to the plot? I’m not anti-gay or anything, it just seems there’s a couple of agendas contained in this story that go beyond the story. Oh well, Mole and Toad keep the plot fires burning…..

I download the Sunday strips and can tell you that the missing strips here usually show up eventually. I think the last time this happened it didn’t get added for over a week. As i recall, a missing Sunday never materialized only once. I prefer the black and white dailies so I collect those at ComicStripNation. They can sometimes fall behind a couple days.
