It’s a parents’ job is to work themselves out of a job.

The investments will pay a huge dividend, . . . If they move out of the house before their 30th birthday.

My 21yo is joining the Peace Corps after she graduates this spring. She will be out of the house but all her stuff will still be here. Half of a win?

I’ll bet you will turn her room into a shrine once she’s out the door. I did, so I know.

Good luck with that Val. Times are hard for many. I know several young college educated kids who can’t find a job that will pay the bills. I lucked out. I have one who takes care of me.

I have two at home 27 and 30 girl and boy. No jobs. Daughter did go to college but college failed to teach the right tools for career she has in mind. For me I had to leave a position low pay and distance. Husband insisted on staying far away from major town small town and I did not want to pay for empty driving for child care and I did not want my parents babysitting children. I am taking on-line classes and soon I will be checking in on in-bound call center with a twist. I am not trying to advertise either.

When my two were old enough to understand I had to manage their own rooms and clothes. I taught them what needs done. For rooms I said have a treasure hunt. Worked. Now if only jobs will come, build up money, and move out.

I’ve got a prosperous baby boomer and a Gen X-er. Have to help out lots with the Gen X’s family. Trying to stay alive long enough to help give them as good a foundation as I can. On vacation now because can’t walk on ice any longer.

My old high school friend is about 26 and still lives at home with mom & dad without a job, and not seeking a job. Her dad says she’s a “professional homeless person” and there is some concern over who’s going to take care of her when the parents pass away. =/

Val is realistic. That is success if your children out grow your parenting.
