Admittedly an exaggeration, but that is the way of political comics. But there is always at least some truth behind such comics, whether they are right or left leaning. And if you actually listen to the likes of Wayne Lapirre, you would see that there is at least there is more truth to this cartoon than reasonable people would like to see!!
I lost 5 points of IQ just reading this cartoon. The NRA has released a new app for those 4 and up that has them shoot an assault weapon at coffins. Time for those members who understand this to be abhorrent to resign their memberships.

I saw Honey Boo Boo for the first time this week — for about ten minutes, then I had to turn it off. Tell me, is American culture simply turning into the celebration of idiocy?
When I read Mickey’s words, I saw frustration with the quality of the debate, not a boredom with how long it has gone on. These cartoonists have a powerful tool and a network. An editorial cartoonist brought down “Boss” Tweed’s political machine. I may be projecting, since I would like to see people made to open their minds and think rather than just pick a side. An article by JAMA, a medical journal, showed how when people smile, the connections between the left and right hemisphere’s of the brain open and it functions at a higher level. Did your best teachers make you smile or…?A more recent study shows smiling and laughing releases endorphins to improve your health, and a really good belly laugh burns calories.I enjoy the cartoons best when I can smile AND think.Respectfully,C.note-Saw a commercial for that poor child you mentioned. sad…just sad.
“Time to stop paying attention to the problem and get back to Honey Boo Boo.”*My comment is purely on what I (and I alone) see as the creativity involved in the cartoon. The media today works on the principal of quantity over quality and as far as peoples attention span to these issues? You are absolutely correct, America will do little of substance until there is some other outrageous action. A new crises almost weekly creates a short attention span. Then there will be outrage and calls for immediate action, politicians fighting for media attention so they can get on the “right side of the issue.” Pardon me if I sound cynical, I am. I had never heard of “Honey Boo Boo” but I guess I lead a sheltered life.*IMO, we are a self indulgent, violent culture that has no more frontiers to conquer, and maintains our quest for bloodsports with football, hockey, mixed martial arts boxing, WWW, hunting etc. I know many find that repugnant but that is exactly the reason why it is such a hard fought battle to implement any regulation on firearms. The assault rifle was popularized by Hollywood and the Chuck Norris and Sly Stallone movies of the 70’s. Americans love the movies and they love the guns. It is one part of my belief that we are the modern day Rome. Better not to go down that road. You’re the philosopher, I’m just an accounting and finance instructor and I generally drop out early from the deep philosophical discussions.Actually, as a teacher and a person considered at least marginally intelligent by my peers, it saddens me to know that Americans watch that kind of tripe (reality TV). I don’t watch much TV and if I do it’s pretty boring stuff like the History Channel, PBS, Turner Classic Movies, How Stuff Works, C-Span, etc. Of course people don’t read anymore either. I almost felt the need to console one of my students when I suggested he go to the library and find a book I was discussing. He looked at me with a forlorn expression and asked, “It’s not online? The library, really?”
It’s our friend the slippery slope again. Once you start taking guns away from private citizens, the obvious next move is to take them away from the police.
I studied religion and if it’s an academic setting will discuss it. On an individual level it’s too personal for most people to objectively discuss. Philosophy I find interesting to read and study but I’m not that interested in it to get into in-depth discussions. I found most of my colleagues (philosophy instructors) felt the same way discussing business, accounting, finance and law, (my bailiwick). I don’t feel most topics on these boards are “beyond me,” but feel it’s often pointless to get involved in the verbal slug outs that go on.

Here’s the thing: some of those grade schoolers probably have use for condoms. If you wait until YOU think they’re ready for access to birth control to make it available, it’s too late. That’s control of one “gun” which the metal detectors won’t pick up, which doesn’t need to be filched from Daddy’s closet, which can’t be left at home, and which there is a biological imperative to want to use.
Would you support an “Abstinence-Only” approach to Firearm Eduducation?
